After debating on the Ally X, I opted to buy my first Rog Ally (Z1E) with 2TB for $480...the same week the Ally X dropped. The Z1E works very well and suits my needs. I think I'd have had some buyers remorse dropping $800 on the X. Unrelated, but I'll never forget you helping me get both a series X and PS5 during COVID. What a wild time that was....

Just get the Z1 extreme and get a 65w powerbank and save a ton of money...because both handhelds have about same performance..they just increased the terrible battery and fixed the SD card frying thingy. That's it.

The Ally X seems sweet and i am aware of the better battery and more ram, but i went with the Z1 Extreme ROG Ally because i found it on sale for 370$ brand new. Really excited to try it out when it arrives

Interesting review but still I refuse to ever consider getting a windows handheld until they optimize it and stop installing spyware.

I prefer the black look of the X, but I don't feel that the few extra FPS and slightly better battery life are worth the price of upgrading. I'm happy with how my current setup plays games, and I have a battery pack for long trips. I also have a 3080XG mobile for my current device, so not being able to use this with an upgrade makes me hesitant. I might stick with my current setup and consider selling everything as a package later to get a USB-C mobile graphics card instead.

As for Windows, it doesn't really bother me as I've been a Windows gamer for many years and know what to expect. However, if Microsoft and third parties want devices like this to sell in the millions, they should consider developing a mobile/gaming OS. It's an interesting time, especially since devices like the ROG Ally and LG Go seem to be selling well.

Where I live the SD OLED 51GB costs the same as ROG Ally X. In dollar value they are $1000+. So the choice was SD OLED 512Gb or the X and I got the X. Windows REALLY SUCKS in a handheld, but with SteamOS coming it will be ok.

I fell asleep for once playing on my ally x vs my ally… I woke up and my ally x still had 53 % of battery after falling asleep with cyber punk running lol . With my original Ally I would stay awake to keep it charged 😂
