I still think it's incredible after 2 world wars fought in Europe you can go to London, Paris, Berlin, etc and not ever realize you're walking on a former battleground where thousands of men gave their lives to allow us to live our lives the way we want to. It's something I don't think ill ever be able to comprehend.

You should have also mentioned the Christmas of 1914. Very nice thing that happened on that day.

+jackfrags Do you know the origin of the word Tank?

Did you know that when the British Army was transporting the first tank they put in a train and named it "Tank" so everybody thought it was just a fuel tank?

5:34 it was less to confuse the enemy than to break the ship's silhouette in order to make it difficult to estimate the range to target.

I love history, especially learning about the world wars mainly world war 1. Me and my school went on the 'battlefields trip' and we visited the explosion left by the mine and the Somme it was incredible to see just how lose the trenches were and how dangerous no mans land was. The battle of Albert was probably the worst day in the war for the British and I enjoyed learning about it and going around a lot of battlefields and graveyards, we will remember them.

'fun' fact about WW1 (one of the few fun facts about this war): the wristwatch is a world war 1 invention. untill then, people carried around with pocket watches, and as a consequence of the charges, with soldiers storming out of their trenches at certain given times, it was unsafe for the commanding officers of a platoon or squad to have to go through the complex manoeuvre of searching for their watch in their pockets with one hand and putting it away again whilst going over the top with the rest of their men...

Fun fact, those colorful ships had a name for their designs, it's called Razzle Dazzle.

Best camo name ever.

I visited Messines Ridge around 10 years ago. Such a huge crater. A real eye opener.

That explosion in Belgium left (as you'd imagine) a huge crater which British Army recruits visit during basic training, as well as the many war memorial grave yards. The youngest soldier's grave I witnessed whilst there was only 15. A true eye opener to how brutal and unforgiving war is.
