As a P6K Pro user as well this video succinctly covers everything I would tell a new P6K Pro user as well! Especially in regards to the battery. The BM NPF gets around 1 hr 7 minutes while a 3rd party battery only gets maybe 45-50 minutes! The camera turns on so fast that I just turn it off when I’m not needing to roll and I can film for a whole wedding day with 3-4 batteries.

Get a cage. Spend the $100 to protect your $2500 camera if it drops. I dropped my 4K for the first time about a month ago or so. Glad I had the cage.

Neck Strap Tip.

Like you, I have chosen to not use a cage and rig the camera out.
I have the older 6k model with the Tilta modification. (So screen flips and there is onboard SSD.) This makes it so close to a DSLR I just have to keep it neat. I carry the camera like a tourist.

So my rig out includes, a cold shoe mount on top for large, daylight screen or mike receiver.
A long Manfrotto base plate on the bottom, Sigma 8-35 on the front, variable ND 3-10 on the Sigma.

The base plate makes the camera easy to set down anywhere.
It also clips to tripod, gimbal, monopod and… neck strap.

The neck strap is a totally underrated bracing tool. Having it attached to the bottom of the camera via a clip-on Manfrotto plate makes it easy to add and instantly out of the way when you use sticks.

I shoot street nightlife and daytime beach – the total extremes of the lighting spectrum.

Great video, man. Thanks for the tips! My biggest complaint about this camera is battery life, that’s why I use a vmount battery when I work with clients (just to make sure I don’t have to worry about that), otherwise I just use the np 🔋 and for the lens yes, the 18-35mm is a great famous lens, I however, changed to cinema lenses, which is where this camera really shines, and remember, you don’t need to buy those extremely expensive lenses-I got the samyang 35mm T1, 5 cinema series M2 and the image is impressive! Cheers from Italy

I use iFocus wit Moza Air 2S gimbal so to get it firmly running I needed 2 points for the plate from Moza. I realised I should have purchased only a simplified cage as using the gimbal requires my to remove any handles (Small Rig set)

This was a super helpful video. I’m a Sony shooter with my freelance but my job use black magic and boy have I found the transition a bit of a challenge but I’m getting there! Great vid! 👍🏻

the cropping fiasco with this camera is the thing that has stopped me from purchasing this camera. We have one at work and I've used it for run and gun quite a bit. The batteries take a day to charge and when shooting 6k you might get 40 minutes of use out of it. Is there a video that breaks all the cropping stuff? Supposedly 4k ProRes downsizes the image so you don't lose your composition.

Can you put the link to the tripod/gimbal adapter on the description?

I've come to the same conclusion on all these tips sans the Sigma lens. I'm doing a lot of Trinity style gimbal work, so photo lenses are basically, right out. I do have a 50mm (FF) Carl Zeiss 2/50ZE, which I use on a tripod for close ups. (fabulous lens btw) I have some mid level Rokinon cine lenses for general work, but I rent what I need for the big stuff. Cages are just fluff for this camera and could not agree more.

Hi Jonathan, what about cannon 17-40mm L lense. Because I have Cannon 6d m2 I tried to use the existing lenses.

Some interesting points! I haven’t really dared go without a cage, but since I’ll be traveling a lot soon, I might give it a try.
What do you think of the focus throw on the 18-35?
I rented it recently to try it out, but I really disliked the focus throw. The lens has a really close minimum focus, which is nice, but that means focusing at anything between 2 to 10 meters is incredibly finicky because that distance only uses some 10% of the focus wheel’s range.

GREAT VID BRO. I do sneaker content myself in a very unique format. And I’m ready to push my content more towards cinematic style. I’m strongly thinking of going A7IV do u think u could do a video all about ROLLING SHUtter issues during regular film making scenarios. And if I should be afraid of it?
