She isn't a bad person but she was incredibley ruthless to Chase. Having someone marry you and tell you he loves you for, like, a million times and then says they don't know if they ever truly loved you... I would've felt incredibly heartbroken.

This is what happens when you give your all to someone who isn't really all for you. Cameron showed him a lot of red flags up to and during the marriage e.g. didn't want to make the relationship more than sex, called off the vacation, wanted to keep her dead husband's sperm etc. She was never really 100% for him. But he was for her. Chase deserved better.

The writers are just brilliant: having her say yes would've potentially got them back together, so their ending story arcs wouldn't have been as good; having her say no would've maked her look like a terrible person who only used him. By saying "i don't know" she reinforces what House told her all those years ago, she needs a project, someone to fix, and she never got that with Chase.

I fucking love this show

Cameron: ok ask any question you want
Chase: did you ever love me?
Cameron: how can you ask that?
Me: wtf you just gave him permission

".. He was dying when you met him, and he was gone just a year into the marriage. So it was all honeymoon with him, now I could never match up to that."

Damn. Chase's character would not have come up with this idea just after that unofficial breakup. I think he always had this thought since the beginning. Fuck, that hurts.

when chase's voice cracked when he said "i could never match up to that" that's so exquisite i love it

This just goes to show that Chase is the next house. Other than his progressive diagnostician skills improving, his ideas on how to psychoanalyze people was further getting sharpened

Them tears could have been real considering they were almost married in real life :(

I think, after Cameron's behavior in their relationship, Chase was 100% validated in asking a question like that. How incredibly heartbreaking to hear the person you love say that. He really deserved better. Chase is presented as this ladies' man but actually treats the people he's dating with tons of respect and love. He's a good guy and I wish he didn't have to go through this.

They dated in real life, got engaged, and broke up. This whole relationship arc was never acted, I genuinely think it was them healing together.

"Don't bring him up!" Cameron always does that, whenever someone brings up her dead husband. She acts like it's because people are being disrespectful by bringing him up, but the truth is she does her best to avoid thinking about how much his death has screwed up her ability to have healthy relationships. She only wants to think about how she did something saintly by marrying him and not recognize that it's had a lasting negative impact on her.

Chase badgered Cameron until he finally got her to tell the truth. I like how he immediately calmed down, as if to say "see, actually saying that wasn't that hard."

Cameron was always a coward. She always pursued relationships that were doomed from the beginning, like her first husband or House. And when she was staring down the barrel of working through the issues of a more or less "normal" relationship, she ran from it and blamed House for "ruining Chase." Additionally, I've got to say the whole Dibala thing gave me a new respect for Chase. I don't know if what he did was truly right or wrong, but he made an incredibly difficult choice based on his personal convictions, living forever with the consequences of knowing he willingly took a man's life in the hope that it would save many others. I never really liked Chase before that, but it gave me a new respect for his character. Meanwhile, Cameron was perfectly content to hem and haw from the sidelines, condemning the man and agonizing over the knowledge they were saving him (even suggesting they let him die after someone tries to assassinate him) but turning away in horror at the prospect of actually taking the onus upon herself to live up to her so-called convictions. Her craven hypocrisy truly was loathsome...

Man the pain in his voice when he says: “now I could never match up to that. Just tell me the truth, did you ever love me?”. Fuck that hurt

Chase was 100% right about her first marriage.

I think she loved him, but she was never in love with him. That scene hits right in the heart. We’ve all been Cameron at one point of our lives and we’ve all been Chase at another. Don’t really know which one hurts more: to not love someone 100% or to not be loved 100%...it’s all just so hard and the people that managed to find their 100% while giving 100% are SO LUCKY.

Fun fact Hugh Laurie actually cried during this scene.

Chases character development is the best in the entire show. Its like watching a boy not just become a man, but an excellent man and leader. I love when foreman is upset to lose him as an asset end series, but proud of him stepping into his full potential. Little known fact, albiet chase was in most the episodes, he solved the most cases of houses underlings.

The saddest part about this was this reflected Jesse and Jennifer's real life relationship to some degree. I wonder if Hugh did this knowing it would bring up these emotions.
