Yes you’re 100% right, they are shorting on the exchange market, forcing the price down. At the same time buying BTC OTC, so it doesn’t reflect in the price. So they may profit on the short and buy the BTC cheap. Then when BTC rises, they sell. Rinse and repeat. They make profit in 3 ways.

If I was a hedge fund or asset manager (BR), I’ll tell you what I would do to keep prices where they are and why I would do it. It’s called the basis trade. And it benefits all the above to be doing it. Buy spot and short the market at the same time. That’s why you see so many shorts at the exact same time of so much inflow. Controls price so people keep buying and they earn 6-10% guaranteed on the spread. Prevents volatility and most importantly a bubble which would be bad for long term business.

I said this from the beginning. Same as the GLD in the Gold Markets. Why would
Blackrock EVER make it easy for retail individuals and the middle class to get massively rich??? the ETFs provide a perfect hedge of them and an ability to short the BTC and then buy it lower when and where they wish.

what I dont understand is: given the hedge fund carry trade is delta neutral, shouldn't the selling pressure from the shorts be offset by the buying pressure from the spot buys?

Market manipulation can only last in the short term. In the long term, BR, Fidelity, etc. benefit if the price on BTC goes up, so it is destined to go up. Patience... Thank You so much James! Take care

I've never seen anything like this. ETFs have good volume, but the games and manipulation are astounding. It seems someone or something doesn't want us to surpass 72K. In every cycle, we've hit all-time highs after halving, and this cycle is the first that just "feels different"... ETFs overshadow traditional world finance. It's laughable. There's something happening that we common folks aren't privy to. What does the data say, aside from everyone and their mother buying? Who is playing games with us?
