I got The original playmates 1701 back in 95 or 96 I remember putting the sticker decals on the model during Star Trek Voyager being aired

Ralph, regarding the grid lines on the box illustrations; it’s pretty obvious that this version of the toy was based on the AMT kit ( Aurora in England ). The component parts are about the same shape and size as the kit, but some alterations were made to make the toy a bit more accurate ( for example, the shape of the B-C deck teardrop, removal of the grid lines, the shape of the underside saucer bulge and the addition of the triangular “landing pad” details ).

The one on the box is likely the prototype, built up from the AMT kit with some of the alterations made. It looks painted with a base color ( rather than molded in it ) and it has the original AMT deflector dish, rather than their retooled version, which is molded in a more flexible plastic and was missing the tip because of U.S. child safety regulations. I still think this one looks more accurate than the new 2022 release.

I bought that ship from a Star Trek convention. It’s just wonderful. It even adds to my collection. Comprised as the 1993 Classic Star Trek action figure set, Captain Koloth, the Gorn and the original USS Enterprise as seen here.

Are their any reprisals or any other Star Trek ships coming out such as A Klingon battle cruiser ? Maybe

Would it have been too much for them to at least tampo print the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 in front of the bridge?! I’ve never been a fan of applying stickers.
