Bruce Mackey, has purchased a Boafeng UV-5R and is having some issues with it. When he enters a frequency it doesn't allow him to insert the 6 digits, this is not a defective radio but merely a settings issue. Watch to learn more.

So many problems with radios can be solved simply.

KUDOS, that is the sort of thing that has Hams scratching their heads, and radios laying in drawers gathering dust! WS7PB

I've found the much less painful solution is to get a programming cable and use CHIRP to program all of the frequencies you want. Make sure the programming cable is one of the ones with an FTDI chip in it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the main differences between the old ones and the new replacement models are 3 things:
1. The new ones have less spurious and less bleed over.
2. The new ones do not allow TX on US restricted frequencies.
3. The newer restricted models are 3x the price of the older unrestricted ones.
I found a UV-5R III tri-band with the 1.25 meter band for less than $30. (New with charger, battery, strap, antenna)

A better written manual would solve a lot of problems. Menu number 1. Frequency Step but no description of what that does. But then you would be asking people to read the manuals so I guess it doesn't matter.
