Rinoa, , let me throw out a thought from an old guy. The fact that you put that time in to help your mom with her home is not time wasted at all. I think it's very cool what you did. You did that and got to spend time with both of your parents is a good thing.
Maybe it doesn't seem like it now but it will later down the road my friend.
Take care and keep up the good work.

A lot of "experts" in the chat. I wouldn't of done things like you did but its about the journey not just the destination. Great video!

Don't get down on yourself. Every project is a learning experience whether it turns out great or not. Heck, more then half the people of the country can only dream about building anything as nice as your shed. Onto the next project! Take care!

Chin up, this time spent has given you a hell of a head start on something great. Sheds take a lifetime of tinkering to be perfect, but afterwards they'll last generations. Everything great in the world started in someone's shed, as an idea, then a project, eventually growing into something the world can't be without. Yes you spent some relaxation time, but you've gained something that will over the years prove to be priceless.

You may eventually when you visit again use some low quality wood like from the pallets to extend the edge of the roof with some tin to create an overhang to kick the rain away from the walls. If you want to go cheap on the roof extensions, have your mother and father keep their aluminum soft drink cans. When you get back, cut the cans and flatten them. Turn the non-printed toward the outside and lay them on the angled overhangs like shingles are laid. It won't rust.

what i would have done different:
4x4s sunk in the ground.
plywood and siding on the walls.
min 6inch overhang on each side of the roof.
plastic sheet to keep the roof leak proof and help cover holes between roof and walls.
slab floor and something as a door.

I need to build a little shed for my tools and lawnmower, too. You show that a person doesn't have to be a carpenter to do this, just takes minimal planning (it's just a wood box, after all, right?) and putting in the hours of work. This was informative and inspiring. Love your mom helping you, too. You are a good son. I wish my son would help me like that.

Great video and work! Thanks! I've always wanted to build my own shed and always imagined I'd do it exactly like you guys. So watching your video, I really felt engaged in this project...

the reason why i was getting more and more pissed about this project as it went on, is because this one video took up the time i'd planned on filming my next Solar Sunday video, me getting my old Ebike working again, rebuilding the firepit, and organizing the basement more. but all that time got spent on this video instead. ah well.

Renoa, don't be sad about that very practical and sturdy shed, or the time it took. As far as I am concerned all your efforts as worthwhile as they inspire me and I'm sure many others to get off our arses and just get stuff done. You inspired me to make an electric bike and battery from old laptop batteries and that has opened my eyes to all sorts of other stuff like solar etc. You in your own way are very inspirational. Keep up the good work and keep posting videos. I'm looking forward to hearing a much happier "See ya!" At the end of the next video. Peace out. Sheldon

Well, I enjoyed the video and I think it’s a pretty nice shed. The one I’m building now is not going to be as good, but will be good enough. As someone learning by my mistakes (as well as lots of YouTube videos) it’s encouraging to see someone problem solving issues that arise.

At least you learned how to plan it better for the next time. :) I like to see people that take up on new things as this helps you to think out of what you usually do every day. I know it will help you once in the future. Keep up with this.

I was thinking about building an underground bunker sort of thing and building a shed on top of it to store my stuff

That shed is composed from more quality lumber than I've ever seen! Barring unusual, unforeseen circumstance it should last over 25 years. Typical yard sheds are built with 2 x 3 studs on 16" centers and very thin, 3/8" exterior plywood ans fall apart after 10 years.

Any building has to be held down against the wind
Cross bracing the walls will stabilise the frame
Tar paper under the wall boards
Roofing screws through the raised part of the metal not the flat

How about some dump runs in that truck instead?

Failure always stings but there is simply no better teacher than the memory of having done it wrong.
