Full Shed Kit Build | 8 ft x 12 ft DIY Storage Shed

Are shed kits any good? This was a question I wondered for years so I decided to finally bite the bullet and build one from Home Depot. This kit will save you a ton of time but I also made several modifications along the way that I think led to a better shed. Let me know what you think and if you are going to build from scratch or use a shed kit like this one.

Very impressive how quickly you assembled this! I'm the type of guy to buy the kit, unload it, dig a few holes then watch YouTube for hours till bed time and the shed kit would be in the yard for a few months.

I built a shed 27 or 28 years ago using a shed kit for Home Depot. You had to build your own floor and everything went together fine except one of the back panels which wasn’t cut correctly. I had to modify it. That shed is still standing. I built new doors for it last year. Not a bad kit. My suggestion for a shed is imagine what your storage needs will be in 15-20 years and build that if you can afford it.

I have also been always curious about those kits. Seems like it’s not a bad deal. Especially if you don’t have much experience building. Great comprehensive video!

Wow $2, 000 not including all of the extra costs and you have to build yourself. I hired a guy locally to build a shed for me just like this with foundation and standard 16" on center studs for $2, 500. Definitely worth it!

This shed seems like a perfect product to install a solar attic fan on - would really pull a lot of the hot air out fairly continuously. Great vid.

To prevent ground moisture from seeping up, I would use a gallon of asphalt sealer [tar] on the bottom of the floor.
It makes a huge difference in numerous ways.

Shed building videos look so easy when you're watching someone else on fast forward.

Nice build!

Really well presented, thank you. Lots of good tips. Admittedly I live in a wet climate, but one mod I think I would have been tempted to make is to add a vapour barrier to the framing before installing the siding. Also maybe add a window in the end wall if planning to use the workbench, otherwise you’d be working in your own shadow all the time.

When I first stumbled onto your channel, I was on the fence about it. But over time, you've kinda won me over. I really appreciate the information and detail you provide in your videos. You also have a relaxed, easy to listen to affect, which helps. It's way easier to follow than the guys who apparently drink a 12-pack of redbull before each video!

In the case of this particular video, it looks like the kit, for me at least, is a bust and I think I'd just use one of the millions of better designs to be had for free or low cost and built it myself. A perfect example of that is the amazing work you guys are doing on your other channel, Everyday Shed. However, for those that choose the kit, I'm happy to see that you provided "improvements" and documented them so well. Thanks for another awesome video.

You’re the man, this is a great tutorial. I’ve been going back and forth on pre built vs kit and I still don’t know what to do lol

Watching you do this makes me feel like I can do this. Great video editing, commentary, etc.

I might have considered a concrete slab rather than blocks. One thing the Midwest is notable for are tornadoes. And they seem to be more powerful. They even brought down The Amazon. But would it hold up to a stiff wind ? That's the thing I would constantly be on edge about. I am very paranoid about my stuff. Not that it's valuable or worth anything, but it's just that it is my stuff. Anyway. Great video. You make it look so easy and effortless. I realize it's mostly through editing magic, but I bet if I tried, I'd end up with a pile of rubbish and the neighbors thinking I have Tourette's and should be institutionalized.

Scott, you did a really good job at explaining how to build this shed and it turned out great!
I am a bigger fan of hexhead screws, too, so well done on that recommendation!
Well done, Scott!

I work at Lowe's and got hooked up with about 20 sheets of 1/2 mixed with 3/4 pressure treated plywood for $50. I want to make a 8x12 shed for my 2 atvs as they're taking up 1/2 of my garage space.

This video helps me out. Im kinda debating on possibly doing a lean to roof to keep it simple.

Exterior stain semitransparent or solid color will do hold better then paint. Now paint is better formulated and can paint outdoor from plus 2 Celsius. I never seen felt 30 always use double 15 for start or other sheeting design for start on cold/ freezing zone. Well done explanation

Never seen this foundation but I think it’s a great cost effective way to build with less labor.
