Can the DSM & Humboldt Simplifier do High Gain?
Показать описание
In trying to find the best platform for a/b demos of pedals I set my sights on the DSM & Humboldt Simplifier. Story goes like this. I really haven't bonded with the high gain tones from my Kemper. Kemper is wonderful and sounds amazing in every other way to me. I used a Revv G20, but the clean really wasn't my thing as I like some hair on the sound when I boost it. The dirty channel also wasn't my favorite. It sounds great in a cab, but the recorded tone I personally haven't bonded with either. "Well duuuude, you need to tweak them..." Well, dude, I've been at this for a bit now. My first recordings were on a reel to reel as big as a fridge... So I will take your suggestion and keep at it.. ;) Maybe I'm old fashioned, but with the frfrs cranked I want my high gain tone to sound and feel real. Feeeeel real... I don't want to polish up a recording after the fact. I want a tone I love straight in so what you get is pure and real. Honestly what I'm try to accomplish here is make the demos I wanted to see and have a great time and tone doing it.
In researching the Simplifier I wanted to know if it could do high gain the way I wanted. There are a few videos that demo it with some high gain. Problem is I have no clue if they were polished to sound good after the fact. Did they sweeten it because they are getting paid? Are they making these videos for a living? I really just want the truth of the pedals. Not personality, opinion or subjective drivel. Hell I make a point to put all my bs at the end of the video... Speaking of, Haha, also make sure the phase spread switch on the Simplifier is in phase or your tone will probably cancel out on most laptops and phones. Sound super thin... Which is not what the Simplifier sounds like. Last video I watched was basically an error and rather embarrassing to be honest.
After saying all that, I can say yes, the Simplifier does what I want. What I am giving you is straight guitar tone you can get yourself. Guitar--Simplifier--Little ping pong delay for depth---straight into a obsolete audio interface---Straight into logic X. I made the video I wanted to find. Everything was done live. Yeah it doesn't sound polished, but it sounds real and will play nice on loud monitors!!! What you heard is how those pedals reacted to the Simplifier.
So in conclusion, with a little finesse, you can make it sound better or worse than this demo! Haha, there you have it, personality, opinion and subjective drivel! Thanks for stopping in!
