Mass Shooting Survivor Marries First Responder

In 2012, Lasamoa Cross went to the Century Theater in Aurora, Colorado, with her fiancé, AJ Boik, to watch "The Dark Knight Rises." Cross says about 15 to 20 minutes into the movie a gunman started firing into the packed theater. Boik was one of 12 victims slain that night. One of the first responders on the scene was officer Cody Lanier. To help deal with the trauma, Cross hand-delivered a thank you letter to Lanier. The letter began a friendship that sparked an unexpected romance.

My mother was widowed when I was 5 yrs old. Even as a child I understood her pain and loneliness as a single parent and her fear of raising 2 children alone. She was the strongest human being I've evet known in my life and even though she's been gone for 4 yrs her strength is always inspiring. Love you mom and thank you. See you in the afterworld.

This makes me think of the woman who married the EMT who saved her life after her ex boyfriend stabbed her 32 times.

What a story! I LOVE this! It’s always so nice to hear of humans caring for each other in any capacity but this is on another level. I’m so so sorry to hear of her loss and you can tell she is an extremely special person so it’s not surprising that ANYONE would love her! I love her too! I have to say though…I have no doubt her late fiancé helped from above to pick out the perfect man for her. This story has “fate” written all over it. 🙏🏻

The man that she was with during the shooting would want her to live her life and be happy I'm sure they have his Blessing and I'm so glad that she's not stuck in grief. I'm sure they both suffer PTSD from the residual effects of the trauma such an unexpected terrifying event happened in the last place you would ever think that it would happen but they're good for each other I can tell.

I remember this. My older brother had just graduated highschool and went to go see this movie on this night at the same time. My parents saw this happen on the news and were so scared that he was in that theater. Luckily him and his friends had decided last minute to go to a different theater, but it still shocked our family so much to know that we were so close to tragedy.

From true love to tragedy and trauma coping the loss of her first true love to finding true love again with the first responder who rescued her that’s quite a love story right there. Glad to see something good came out of this horrific nightmare that sent her in a dark place at that time. I think her first true love Adrian would’ve wanted her to be happy move on and continue to live life through the fullest even through her darkest hours but he will always be with her as he now lives in her heart. Even though her first true love is gone his spirit lives on
