As an American myself who’s learning Spanish, that is a very accurate representation of how it sounds when we try to speak Spanish

I personally think the problem is that the system in the us is trying to be so many different things at the same time that it fails at almost everything.
For example, the schools are simultaneously trying to keep up with the slowest learning students, while constantly encouraging everyone to take difficult and overwhelming classes. This kinda just leads to people who take longer to learn getting lost when there’s so many different things to learn, while students that learn quickly (like me) are bored to death while struggling to keep up with the mountains of busy work.

It’s not their fault though! Most Americans are usually only offered Spanish (or maybe French) and the U.S. is so big that knowing another language isn’t even that helpful except for travel. In Europe you could see like 8 countries in the time it takes to cross Texas.

I mean US is a completely separated nation so learning languages we are rarely exposed to results in people forgetting languages if it isn’t used. For example Canadians are often good at French but that’s about it. Why? Because they are exposed to french speakers frequently that it has become somewhat of a necessity to know it. In the US, unless you live in an area with a lot of immigrants, picking up a language is just not as important.

I’m American and this accurately reflects me. I’m learning Swedish and I’m scared to even say simple words like “Hej” or “Kontor”

why am I saying “I’m” so much
