This is amazing! We had a high school student working in a lab in our med school, and after she asked one fellow from what country he came, he told her "Japan" to which she asked "Is that the capital of China?" He had trouble believing what he had heard! I remember reading that when Tori Spelling was asked to name the capital of New York, she answered "New Jersey".

When I taught undergrad I made all of my students learn: tell time on an analog clock, cursive, watch Star Wars, stop feeling smarmy about not watching television because they will not understand anything a person under 30 is talking about. Oh and I highly encouraged geography. When I was recovering from a series of surgeries I learned where every country on Earth is, and I can do about 70% with shapes alone (Puerto Rico and Turkey look alike). It has helped my reading of the news, my interpreting, and really impresses people from other countries when you know where they are from.
