Luminar 4.2 The power of LUTS

In this video I take a look at how LUTS in Luminar 4.2 can be used to enhance your images and why you should consider using them during your editing process.

Look UP Tables (LUTS) have been used in cinema since (as I found ) 1927 as a 2 colour process, and a painstaking one at at! But now with the technology of today they can be added in a matter of seconds and if you don't like the effect it applies to your image it can be easily changed.

LUTS can be used as a starting or finishing point to your edits and in the video I show you how I apply the LUT to hopefully achieve a more natural look to a scene. Well as natural as you can get with a dragon in the scene!

EXPLORE IMAGINE CREATE thats the key. Once you have the idea then it's just the process.

There are many ways to create your images and its fun to try different things with your images.I hope the methods shown in this tutorial are useful to you in creating your own.

Its really worth exploring the software and seeing what it can do and as well as that letting your imagination run free :)
It’s good to think outside the box at times and just experiment with what you can do with your software.

The focus of the tutorial is not the final image but the process involved to get there.

Try the techniques for yourself and see what happens, if you like them use it in the future. But if not, well at least you have learned something that the software can do differently. All’s Good :)

Thank you Gary for your great videos. I have not spent a lot of time with LUTS. But you have given me more understanding on doing so. I also struggle when to use layers. I mainly use LightRoom and it’s a new concept for me.

Hi Gary, an interesting video and thank you for sharing the techniques, though I opine, I found it difficult to see where the dragon ended and its surroundings began, and if the top point was part of the dragon or a spire of some kind?
