I've used Luminar since it came out, I gravitated to it because they were the ones who first developed Nik software which I also love, still use and am glad DxO picked them up. Luminar keeps getting better and better and I find it is often my go-to for processing large numbers of images. While you still need Photoshop for complex and detailed corrections, Luminar is starting to give Lightroom a run for its money.

I used Luminar 3 and currently using Luminar Flex and I cant wait to use Luminar 4. My workflow combination between Lightroom, Photoshop and Luminar 4 will be give me vast amount of tools to take my images to the next level. Thanks Ted for this video.

Luminar just keeps getting better and better. Used as a plug-in for Apple Photo though, previous versions varied from slow to hanging up on my 2014 iMac running latest Apple software.

I agree with the consensus that the current versions are very slow. Luminar 2018 improved on Luminar 3 when it came to speed, on my machines, and I hope that Luminar 4 improves again . I don't typically edit a whole collection in Luminar, just particular photos that I think could be enhanced further using Luminar 2018. I have paid for the upgrade so looking forward to checking out the new Ai features. Great video btw.

Excellent summary Ted, thank you. I’ve been using Luminar for several years now (along with the usual suspects) and it’s my go-to now — especially as it has a catalogue feature and a simple method of separating raw from jpg. Regrettably, it seems to be as polarizing as in Mac vs PC or Nikon vs “etc” and I’m saddened at the vitriol I see. I get it “it’s not Lightroom” agreed, however it’s not $120 per year to rent. Luminar (Flex) works transparently with Lightroom or Apple’s Photos— so I ask rhetorically, what’s not to like. Anyway, I’m holding my breath for comments =)

Great video, Ted. I just started trying Luminar 4. At first, I was put off by the radical changes from Luminar 3, but now I see the logic. This product is powerful! I am still waiting for them to improve their library enough to take on Lightroom, so that I can make the switch once and for all!

I haven't used Lightroom since I bought Luminar because I love how simple Luminar is. However, I wish they would have thought of fixing the program crashing so often before even thinking of releasing a new version.

The really killer feature that this would have to have is amazing skin enhancement and automatic retouching. Looks like they're on the right track but it's not quite there. The end result often looks a bit plastic and smudged. With results like that, I would rather just do it myself.

Seems that many people here in the comments who have tried Luminar have also had problems with speed and bugs or crashes. Can you do a follow-up video evaluating its performance in this regard?

I've been using Affinity for some time in place of Photoshop ( I was with Photoshop since version 2.0 up to CS6, but I just don't agree with Adobe's software renting policy ). I've also been testing Photolemur's "AI" on my workflow usually before Affinity and saves some time in editing, but not always. Fortunately my PC is quite powerful and handles it fast enough!
