Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing Molly Weasley's defeat of Bellatrix Lestrange bearing NEW information in mind from the latest Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy.

In the Deathly Hallows Molly Weasley, the sweet caring mother, stands up for her daughter and KILLS one of the most infamous Death Eaters in the Wizarding World - Bellatrix Lestrange.

We’ll be taking a look at HOW it happened and what spells may have enabled this nurturing mother to take down one of the most powerful dark witches in history.

Let’s dive in.

In the Deathly Hallows Part 2 there’s A LOT going on. Voldemort is regaining immense levels of power, Hogwarts is under siege from Death Eaters, and the characters we had grown to love over the years suddenly start dropping off like flies. But while The Battle of Hogwarts certainly had a healthy number of fatalities, not all of them were quite so sad.

The deaths of characters like Remus Lupin, Severus Snape and Fred Weasley undoubtedly pulled on our heart strings, but we also got to witness the death of some less..favourable characters. One of the most significant being Bellatrix Lestrange.

From what I've gathered, Molly is quite underrated and underestimated. It might have been one, or perhaps two Molly originals, like Snape's Sectumsempra.
Creating them from nothing, and being more skilled than anyone gave her credit for, giving her complete mastery of it.
Explaining the silent casting.
Just my take : )

Either way I love how the Weasleys were made fun of for years then ended up being absolute beasts on the battlefield. Arthur studied rubber ducks for Pete’s sake.

People, it was Bellatrix who didn't stand a chance against Molly. Think about it; while Bellatrix was locked up, she was wandless. Molly, on the other hand, lost 2 brothers in the first war and knew there was going to be another war. There's no chance in hell that Molly wasn't training for battle all those years.

Reducto is a spell that Ginny was always good at using: maybe Molly used it too? On Bellatrix’s heart? Kind of poetic justice to use it on a heartless character.

molly clearly used a laundry spell that shrunk bellatrix's leather bodice making it impossible for her to move or breath.

The most ancient magic part of it is the way she thrusts her wand forward and just instakills her. Almost as if Ancient Magic takes control of the user, like when Harry's wand guided it's way towards Voldemort when he was attacked in the polyjuice potion travel expedition.

As far as the book, I always thought Molly wasn't using a particular spell, but raw emotions (fear, rage & grief) violently focused directly through her wand. Before I completely understood how sacrificial protection worked, I thought it only worked because Lilly was Harry's mother. In my mind, I called the spell "Mother's Love". I thought of Molly's spell as "Mother's Rage".

there is an ancient magic effect in the game that does almost exactly what she did to Bellatrix. If the devs didn't do that on purpose, it's one hell of a coincidence. After seeing it in Hogwarts Legacy, I accept that she did in fact use ancient magic, at least the hit poofed Bellatrix. I think the first hit was a spell that was shrinking her clothes extremely, and while that was happening she was hit with ancient magic that poofed her.

My vote goes toward the ancient magic based on a mothers unconditional love for her children. Plus the fact that fred was already dead that might have enhanced her power and hatred for BL and all she represented. Mama bear didnt just growl, she shredded! Go Molly!

My favorite scene by far... Molly was fierce. The love for her children was definitely fueling her magic. She had just lost a child and was about to lose her only daughter. Ancient Magic passed down through her family possibly.

I have nothing to back this up, but I always thought it fitting that Bellatrix LeStrange, fiercest of Voldemort's allies, taken down by a housewife. However, what is that's only half of it and that she met her demise by something much more commonplace?

Yes, Molly Prewett was a talented witch from a long line of witches and wizards, but she had spent the last few decades as a housewife, using everyday spells and charms to maintain the household. That doesn't mean she's lost her ability. Dumbledore himself was impressed with her clock she uses to track her family. So what if, when the Wizarding World went back to war, she just weaponized the spells she had been using everyday for years? That she had complete mastery of, she just "tweaked" to serve a different purpose?

So imagine, a terrifying witch like Bellatrix taken down by a spell used to julienne vegetables that Molly "tweaked" and aimed at her heart instead. I find it fitting.😏🖤

A lot of people tend to forget that the Weasleys are among the 28* sacred names of pure blood families, which means the Weasleys have been around for a long time. And Molly was initially Molly Prewett before she married Arthur, wasn't she? That's another of the family names on the list. The magic could've easily been sleeping dormant for eons, then surfaced at Molly's rage and desire to protect Ginny (I'm talking book Molly) because as you said, it's never stated specifically what spell Molly used to finish Madam Crazy Pants.

Edit- fixed! Thanks for the correction my fellow nerds.

When i saw the ancient magic finisher ingame i thought of that scene too. Here's an interesting thing to keep in mind, remember in the last book they said "its like hogwarts itself is trying to fight back", its always had a sort of sentience of its own and its a known stronghold of ancient magic. So is it really out of the realm of possibility that during a battle for the castle, the castle itself would start giving its defenders access to its ancient magic?

Never underestimate a housewife and mother.

Molly was always depicted as a very powerful witch in the books, just not in the traditionally defensive spells that harry would know and recognise, as the books are from his perspective.
They don't talk about it in detail in the books but we saw Hermione, a well known powerful witch herself, struggle with food related spells during the deathly hallows. Yet we see Molly do multiple food and household spells simultaneously whilst also juggling more kids than you could shake a wand at, all whilst also maintaining household magic in the home and managing to keep her massive brood of magically skilled kids alive throughout their childhoods (which as a Muggle mum to two, it's shocking how often it feels like they're trying to unalive themselves, I've lost track how many times I've had to say "no sweetheart, you climb down the tree, don't jump" 😂 and thats without magic in the mix), so she clearly also has powerful healing and counter charms (maybe even counter curses) knowledge, to manage a house full of magical outbursts and injuries. Presumably passed down through the generations and largely home taught (cos I didn't see household magic classes at hogwarts) or through trial and error as a new wife and mum. Plus remember she came of age during a massive war, so she would have been taught defence and offensive spells during school, and probably from family members also, too.

Personal side story here but it has a point. One time my ex, horribly abusive man, came into the kitchen, where I'd been practicing ABCs with our toddler while I cooked and he watched TV (I never left them alone with him so not loud sing songs while cooking was my go too), he was angry dinner wasn't ready yet, I tried to placate him but toddler kept singing which angered him more and he went for her. Luckily I was quicker, put myself between them, pointed my spatula at him and said "don't you dare, you know I will defend my baby and I know this kitchen a hell of alot better than you do!" He shouted some verbal abuse at us and stormed out the house. Now I'm sharing this because it's relevant to my point about Molly, in that moment when I thought he was going to seriously harm our child, my brain quickly calculated all the tools at my disposal to defend her, it honestly shocked me just how many cooking and household skills can be applied to self defense (also helped on the road to realising we could leave, my kids are now thriving).

Now imagine this in a woman, with all those highly skilled household spells now being used defensively and offensively, fuelled by love (love being the most powerful type of magic), that is one heck of a formidable opponent. For all we know her spell could've been that she magically chopped or peeled Bellatrix's heart like a spud.

I don't think that we really need to worry ourselves about how Bellatrix and Riddle fell to pieces. That was all movie drama. It seems that the books only say that they toppled over. Actually, even Bella's corset shrinking may also be movie drama. My thought is that seeing as the book specifically mentions that the spell was over Bella's heart, that Molly somehow stopped her heart, and Bellatrix toppled over, just like my aunt did when her heart suddenly stopped. It would not be that hard for Molly to interrupt the electrical beat of Bella's heart.

I always think Molly somehow stopped Bellatrix's Heart completely perhaps with a Freezing Charm centered on it. However, if it is Ancient Magic I then suspect that Harry being so touched and filled with it can sometimes see sense it. Like during that battle knowing what was about to happen to Bellatrix.

I can see how this would be a mix of ancient magic, nonverbal magic, and the power of love. Molly had a lot going on in the series. Her brothers were already dead before book 1. She saw Cedric dead in Book 4 (she was there to support Harry for the last task in Goblet of Fire). She was seeing the Boggarts of her family in Book 5. By Book 7 she had had enough. Fred was killed and Ginny nearly killed. All of this pushed her over the edge so she was just so angry that everything came spilling out of her and she used every ounce of power she had to take down Bellatrix. That wand probably produced a spell nobody will ever be able to identify.

i think the first spell was on bellatrix's clothes making it tighten, immobilizing her, and the second was just a nasty bombarda/reducto . when you consider how much much magic mrs weasly uses simultaneously in the barrow all the time, this outcome is no surprise, i'd say she's much more powerful than mr weasly

I think the first curse in the film was a variation of the drying charm. Possibly a custom charm Molly would use to dehydrate meats and fruits and being a frugal witch with low means it would make sense that she has such a charm. Seeing her body looking like it is contracting and desiccating, Molly hits her with bombarta which causes her dry body to explode.
