Forgotten Kevin Costner Movie Tarantino Calls a 'Masterpiece'

Tarantino called it a masterpiece. Spielberg bankrolled it. Warner Bros. buried it. And when it finally hit theaters, it made less than a hundred grand. This is the Kevin Costner movie Hollywood tried to erase.

I saw it. Fantastic movie. I wish Hollywood could remember how to make a good character driven, well written movie without CGI and spandex superheroes and a 300 million dollar bloated budget.

Fandango is a great film. All of the actors as well as the soundtrack work so well together.

The Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays tune "It's for you" tips the end of the movie over into absolutely divine. A remarkable film for sure.

Saw it by accident in a pub of all things one Saturday afternoon in the early 90s, after KC had already been in several hits. A group of us were killing some time before going on to do something in the evening. There was a movie projector running, of all things, and that caught my attention. Then I suddenly realised who it was on the screen. Just a younger version. I couldn’t figure out why I knew nothing at all about this movie.
We were chatting and laughing so we didn’t see it completely from the beginning but it’s so well written and acted that we got hooked, and absolutely loved it. We used to quote “It’s been real guys” to each other for years, because of this movie. I’ve looked for it for years but never seen it again. Not on crappy DVDs or old movie channels … nothing.
So glad someone else appreciates it.

I saw Fandango on cable right about the time I graduated college in Texas. This movie hit every possible note for me.

One of my favorite films. The skydiving scenes are brilliant, especially Truman getting Judd Nelson ready. Kicking the chair out from under him.

Remember, the Shawshank Redemption never made any money at the theatres either. Lots of hidden gems out there.

When the tag line popped up in my feed ?

I KNEW it would be Fandango !!

While I didn't get lucky enough to see it in the theater...we all caught it on cable...it truly is a gem

Fandango is a touching, beautiful film. Kinda sad in that this is the end of innocence.
I'd watch it again.

Watched it with my best friends in college and it had a strong impact, as through the years, we keep on repeating the final toast to each other, as motivation in tough moments, but also celebrations and reunions, a bit like a motto, as spiritual guidance for our friendship.

“Righty-tighty. Lefty-loosey!” I still remember that line from Costner.

Fandango changed my life. Great movie. I think it was the first time I was taken in by a movie. And Can’t Find my Way Home is one of my favorite songs.

I saw Costner first in ‘Silverado’, at the drive in back in ‘85. He played a crazy kid who wore two guns and was eager to be a gunslinger. His role was small, but he crushed it. I saw ‘Fandango’ on VHS a couple of years later.

I remember catching this on repeat on some cable in the 80s, HBO, TNT, or TBS. Loved watching and wish I could catch the whole thing at once. Thanks for the memories.

Brilliant movie. Back in the day (early 90’s) it took four or video rental stores before me and girlfriend could find it (Toronto, Canada). It was worth it! Thanks for the video.

For some reason I was convinced it was going to be The Postman.

I worked in a mom and pop video store when this came out. Saw it. Loved it. Still one of my favorite small films.

Fandango was a classic. I saw one afternoon after college. It's probably one of the most under rated films of that era. Even though, it was centered around Vietnam era, you could say it was a coming of age, but also a premature goodbye to the black & white world.
