Thoroughly enjoyed sitting in my local Victorian pub with a nice pint of ale brewed on the premises watching this tonight. Relaxing and setting me up for work this week then I'm off for two weeks allotment yeah!!!! Cheers 🍻

I think go with another poly tunnel. I wish I had a poly tunnel the plants in yours look so healthy. It looks like on the whole you are having a good year despite the weather

Hi Tony, very good video, just some thoughts on growing figs, if you plant them in the ground, best to restrict the roots via root control bag or slabs & rubble to about 1.5 to 2 foot square if you want fruit else they will grow like vines and not produce fruit for ages. I grow figs in pots in essex, I find it's critical to get them off to an early start in march in a greenhouse to give them time to ripen the fruit later in the year, the extra heat really helps too, good luck :-)

the black currant gooseberry cross is a jostaberry, tony. cuttings are easy to root. they also make a suitable hedge against

Good crop all round Tony. I would go for the new polytunnel. There are quite a few tubular frame systems that are more than good enough to to throw a net over for brassicas, or you could make some fabricated goal post frames from re-bar. Cheers. Nigel 👍🏻

Yes I would go for another polytunnel. Our weather is so unpredictable with climate change now. When you are retired you will get more time for the regular tasks like watering and freak veg growing. I have had 3 good years of outdoor growing in 20 years of West Wales on an exposed site. My lean to greenhouse just has tomatoes and runner beans. We have some runners to pick. The wind damage here is even knocking down 7year old trees. All in all Tony your allotment looks great.

Hi Tony, The bush up by the bin, I think was a Josterberry not a Loganberry I may be wrong mind. Great clip thank you for the update. Andy

The allotment looks really good, and your plants look really healthy despite the whitefly.

Is there a halfway material - between netting and a polytunnel? Maybe use white Scaffold netting or the type used in Tenerife to protect the Banana plantations? These allow the rain to come through and some air for ventilation and filter out the strong sunlight, but allow some sun to come though. This would mean less manual watering as the rain would still do most of the work. It would keep the strong winds off the plants, but allow fresh air to stop disease forming and keep pests off like birds and butterflies

Aubergine, once they flower move them outside the wind blow, will pollinate it and cut the top when it 12-18 inches you will fast growth and fruiting though in UK the season is not extended to once you come to the end place them back in the Greenhouse.

Nice work Tony and a great vid. Can you do something on what I can plant now? I know its late but this great Welsh summer we are having and a slug assault has wiped out most of what I was growing. Family commitment meant I didnt get to put enough time as well and hoping I can still get something away
