Hi. I am Albert pooleys grandaughter. Thank you for this. The story needs to be told. He was a very proud man. And would be so happy that this story is still being told.

My great Uncle, Raymond Pigg, was among the 97 victims murdered that day by Knöchlein and his men. Thank you for playing your part in keeping his and his comrades' stories alive.

Thankyou for another wonderful presentation. My grandfather, who was a Dunkirk veteran, went to visit Albert Pooley in the early 80’s (we lived in the same house not too far away from Southall where Albert Pooley lived). Pooley was in quite a bad condition by then which wasn’t helped by what he had gone through. An Immensely lucky man. Thankyou for highlighting this story to a new generation

There was also a similar incident at Wormhout, where men of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, were murdered by elements the 1st SS Division, under the command of Wilhelm Monke.

Thank you. I had not heard about this massacre previously. Tragic to say the least. Do you know in which cemetery the bodies of the fallen are resting btw?

0:00 Its a shame that this man hasn't read the true account of what happened, try reading from La Paradis to Kohima, the men managed to get to a farmhouse where a very brave Farmers wife sheltered them before they surrended to a regular German Army unit
My interest in this my father was transferred from the Royal Berkshire reg to make up the strength of the 2nd battalion and went on with them to win the MM at GPT ridge Kokima May 1944

this line was held by the 2nd division, 4th 5th and 6th brigades, plus 2 battalions of 25th brigade, against 4 german divisions, all virtually wiped out,

If you’re ever in Norwich, there is a further memorial to the Norfolks who were massacred, in the grounds of the cathedral next to the grave of Edith Cavell.

amazing that it took 2 men to corroborate each other's accounts before it was believed

And the French were not even able not to make a mistake in the... french text! "eurent massacres" instead of : furent massacres'! Respect to the victims!
