Honestly imagine if H.G Wells saw the 2005 movie and how the future adaptations compared to what he imagined in his book while writing it. I think he be terrified

I like how the early Tripods have eyes.

There is a reason why the 2005 tripods are the way they are. They are completely inspired the book, seeming to move in a almost biological manner, the reason they put shielding in is fairly obvious. In a modern day scenario a un shielded tripod is a dead tripod.

Honestly, these are the most terrifying illustrations of the tripods to me. Everything is so creepy, out of place, ruthlessly industrial and uncanny.

They look cartoonish to most people today, but you have to remember, both HG Wells and the artist who conceived these illustrations lived in a time in which there weren't even reliable flying planes yet, the Great War had yet to come, and these people were thinking about spaceships, aliens, and horrific walking war machines that could shoot heat rays that disintegrate human flesh and flay buildings and military equipment, withstand the strongest bombardments the army and navy could muster, and belch forth black clouds of choking smoke that turn living people into charred ghosts. That is some seriously horrifying stuff, and why the historical context and their understanding of extraterrestrials of the time make these drawings so haunting.

In my opinion, the Correa tripods/fighting machines were scarier than any other tripod.
Can you just imagine just walking down the street and finding *THAT* in the distance?
edit: I CHANGED IT TO CORREA NOW STOP YAPPING 😦

I think the best tripods are these ones and the Jeff Wayne musical illustrations

The original illustrations by Alvim Correa should be a movie by themselves

I love how uncanny they are, and how each Tripod has a different design to the other m

The older tripods are more terrifying, the newer ones are still scary but something about the older ones is just horrific
