This week is National Vocation Awareness week for the Catholic Church, and I have an interesting message: Don't become a priest.

I left this feeling so motivated. I've been accepted to seminary and am so ready to lay down my life for the sake of the Kingdom. Pray for me!
UPDATE: I'm into my 2nd year at seminary, God has been so good to me and I can more surely say that the advice contained in this video is golden. Please listen to this wisdom from Fr. Casey.

I felt a call to the priesthood long ago, but felt no encouragement from my community.

Ergo, I felt that I would not be able to lead a larger faith community well as their priest.
I also had a strong desire to have a family.

Later, I married, but was not able to have children because my wife was past her time.

Since then, we have encountered many "children' who needed direction in their lives.
This has become my vocation. ; to help those in need as I(we) can enable them.
A unique vocation.

So true! When I was the religion coordinator at a Catholic elementary school, I asked our chaplin, one of our parish priests, if he would celebrate mass for the faculty during our retreat. Our plans were made and a retreat house booked as I wanted to be sure we had a place off campus so out teachers could be away from the workplace and really focus on our reflection of what it means to be a catechist and more than a teacher. His response to my question, "You don't expect me to give up my day off for that?" I was shocked, to say the least. My reply, "No Father, I would never ask you to give up a golf game to help our teachers understand the difference between what it mean to be a "Catholic teacher" as apposed to being a "teacher". He was then promoted and is director of clergy personnel for the archdiocese. Thankfully, the following year a different parish joined the parish and asked to be the elementary school chaplin. When I asked him about joining us for our retreat he said, "Well that's my day off..." I thought here we go again. "so nothing will keep me away for joining you and celebrating mass for our teachers." There had to be one good one in the group.

I am a former seminarian and i always believed that i was called by God. I answered on that call and i lived in a seminary for almost 3 years. Until I realized that this is not my calling, i may be for a different profession. But living and experiencing a life in the seminary, tought me alot of things, and made me think that God really planned that to happen. I've learned that I have to accept my true self because I know that God loves me and my imperfections. That life experience is something that i will forever treasure in my entire life.

I’ve only recently started learning more about Catholicism since I was raised in an Atheist household, and the more I learn the more I want to join the priesthood, I feel like our lord himself showed me this path and I will do anything to follow it, thank you so much Friar, you have helped me find a path meant for me
