Today, in this free blues guitar lesson, I'm teaching you about a concept I learned from studying the lead playing style of the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I am extremely proud to announce I am now a published author and my first instructional guitar book 'Beyond Pentatonic Blues Guitar' is now available for purchase WORLDWIDE.

Expand Your Blues Soloing By Going Beyond Pentatonic!

Beyond Pentatonic Blues Guitar is the pathway to discovering authentic blues sounds beyond the basic blues scale!

You’ll learn the language, licks and concepts that your favourite blues guitarists use to add sophistication and flair to their solos.

Aimed at the intermediate blues guitarist, this book gives you the tools to escape the pentatonic purgatory that so many blues guitar students get stuck in.

Teaching you the melodic and harmonic ideas utilised by the Pros so that you too can create authentic blues guitar solos.

You’ll Learn How To…

✅ Outline and target blues chord changes
✅ Phrase with an authentic blues time-feel
✅ Control tension and release musically and tastefully utilise triads, arpeggios and scales beyond the pentatonic
✅ Chromatically Colour your lines like Stevie Ray Vaughan and use diminished scales like Robben Ford
✅ Plus lots, lots More!

Featuring an audio and video demonstration of every example, you’ll be able to see and hear exactly how the concepts, licks and solos are played.

Bridging the gap between the tabs and the music itself, Ross demonstrates all the material, allowing you to go beyond the notes and study the technique and articulation.

This Book Includes…
✅ Detailed explanations and examples of sophisticated blues soloing concepts.
✅ Licks, solo studies and practice etudes for you to learn and internalise
✅ Backing tracks in all 12 keys, at three different tempos, featuring different band arrangements

SRV really did revolutionize how to think about playing Blues. Just his tone alone makes your skin chill and pick up the guitar. Cheers as always Ross.

I love how you casually said SRV is a pretty good blues player. That's pretty humorous man. He only changed a complete genre and humbled every single old blues player out there,
Instantly changed every '80s guitar player including me, and still to this day people are trying to emulate him but yeah he's just pretty good. 😂😂😂😂

I’ve bought your book Ross it’s ace, what made me buy it in the first place was the quality of the stuff your putting out for free, I’ve picked up loads from just on YouTube, really enjoying it so far, keep up the good work

I bought a tabulated SRV book years ago thinking I might be able to pickup a few tricks from the Legendary guitar master . Upon opening the book and seeing just how MUCH he crammed notes into each section of each song flat astonished me. He put more notes into Damn near every song he played than just about anyone else I can name, and made it look so simple all while doing it . Thanks for your video here👍. Now off to practice some more……🤞

Thanks for the great video! I sorely miss SRV. I saw him live 3 times back in the day. He was a monster musician. He was laid to rest here in Dallas where I live. Godspeed SRV.

Truly an iconic set of licks that SRV blazed through live and on his records. Thanks for excellent mini lesson.

Listen to the great Kenny Burrell's Midnite Blue album(1962)
Jimi and SRV both dipped deep into that well and then turned it up to 11...Chili Con Carne is on that record

I'm glad to be introduced to your channel.Earlier yesterday evening someone at a guitar store in NYC was trying to play the intro lick to a Stevie Ray Vaughan song that I actually could play but hadn't played regularly in awhile.Had no idea that this video would be suggested, but I'm glad it was .Will check out your free video.I've been playing guitar for over 10 years. The song I had to look up the name again"Life by the drop".

There’s a 3rd lick you could add to this that’s one of his signature licks. He does it in the intro to Honey Bee and he does lick number 1 from you video. The intro starts on the turn around. On the 5 he does your lick #1 on the 4 he walks down those two notes to the root. He did that in other songs too. Walk down chromatically on that 9 flat 9 to the root. Honey Bee is a great example of these licks because two of them happen back to back.

Very nicely done. I did an SRV tribute in the Toronto area for 9 years (Rave On) and have all these links under my fingers, but you broke this down nicely and isolated those 'micro phrases' in a great way. Kudos. I've signed up for your free video and will be watching it with much interest as getting beyond the basic pentatonic (major or minor) has always been a struggle. I'm subscribed!

Reached 40 min of the free masterclass video so far. Very well put together. I had noticed for a while that in blues, you do have to play the chord, not just a minor pentatonic and in particular the major 3rd of those dominant chords. But I liked the way you explained how to transition from one chord to another. I “just” got to spend some time playing with that “palette” over each chord and changes now 😂. Cheers. 👍🏻
