What Does A Misfire Look Like?

In this video I show you what a misfire situation looks like on my N54 powered BMW 335i.

If you've never experienced a misfire on your car this video will give you an idea of what to expect.

I also go into some theory as to why running colder plugs on your tuned car helps avoid misfiring.

I install a set of NGK plugs and gap them. They are one stage colder than stock. They contain part number 95770. Over the 1bar (14.5psi) you should be on your new plugs, smart move. Imo you should always check the plug gap, never assume it's correct without checking first

I had a crazy misfire in my stage1 f30 335i doing a 4th gear pull and the car jolted so hard and went into limp mode. Changed the coils and plugs and its been running smooth ever since.

One of the best and most helpful video... it’s sad some girl that goes fishing in a bikini gets 100k and youtube money.. Real useful Videos like this do not.. I thank you as I was able to fix my EuroCharged tuned 328i Wagon

183, 249 miles on an N54 with so many haters talking smack about how unreliable the N54 is. You should do a video on what you've done to the car. Sounds like the air filters and a tune. 183k seems pretty reliable to me. Great video. My N54 has 57k on it and I'm looking for many years of enjoyment from my Z4.

Really good video, but you do go through coils faster the wider the gap. Jumping the larger gap is harder on the coils is my guess, but I do know it wears them out faster from experience. get better coils or accept what will happen every so often. The brown arching, on the plug base of porcelain, is usually from some oil that seeped into the tube past the valve cover seal and is arc burned in a bit. There is no cleaning for that, I mean it must be replaced. that was the misfire I'm sure. wish you had labeled where plugs came from, but still not a bad video

I just got schooled! Very good video, I learned a lot, thank you!

I'm pretty sure Cold plug just means it draws heat away from the tip faster than a "hot" plug. For example, if you are running a stock car on a NA engine and switch to 2 step cold plugs then you might experience carbon fowling.

Oh man, I experienced this today! After a 3rd gear pull with the JB4 while on map 1. It was my first day using the JB4. Just bought the car with it installed. I’m changing all plugs and coils tomorrow. Hopefully it’s the same thing as yours.

Another awesome video! By far the most informative videos for the N54 platform. Keep them coming!

I have a 2003 330i E46 and had a misfire this morning. Sounded exactly like this except it was while I was at a red light. I pulled over when it turned green and shut the car off for about a minute. Turned it on and it ran smoothly for the rest of the day. I’m new to the BMW world and was wondering if someone could shed some light on why that happened? Like I said it only happened that short time that I was at the light and didn’t have any issues at the end of the day. I ended up clearing the engine codes and even floored it on to the freeway Some technical details:
2003 BMW 330i E46
183.000 miles/245.500km
Time of event: 11:40
Outside Temperature: 11c/51f
Idle RPM: 610
Code: Misfire CYL# 3 and 6
Idle RPM during misfire: 490
Notes: my car idles kind of low when running at optimum temperature with the climate control off. I was also told that it has oil leaks in certain places that are very minimal and I have the parts to be replaced on order. I understand this is a very large comment to which I commend and Congratulate you on reading all of this.
