I missed you so so much! Guess what, I finally got into the Surgical Tech program. My professor sometimes uses your videos in class. :))

I’m so glad your back Shane! I’ve missed seeing your videos! I hope you and your family are doing well.

I also wanted to add one point about sutures that you touched on. Which helps explain the importance of sutures. As the majority of the human body contains sterile cavities. Closing wounds which penetrate the skin and the sub-dermal layers. We decrease the chance of internal infections by restoring the barrier created by the skin. Which creates these sterile cavities. Without closures, the cavities could become septic.

Hi Shane,
Thanks for all the videos. I'm an English RN and have been out of practice for a while, I plan to make a fresh start next year and hope to work in theaters. Your videos have given me a great insight and made me feel very enthusiastic about going into this field of nursing. Your expert knowledge and love of your job come through on the videos very well. You really do have a talent at explaining things clearly but yet keeping it interesting. Thanks again all the way from the UK 🇬🇧. ❤

Can you do a video about the time out? I've heard very little about it but from my understanding it's a critical part of the operation

Do surgical techs normally apply sutures? I thought that was all on the surgeon.

Do we have to know all the layers of the skin? Just asking most video show passing of instruments and getting the room ready

I love these videos.. they really helped me decide I wanted to get back into the clinical arena at the beginning of the year (new scope of practice) so I set about enrolling...fast fwd 10 months and I am just enjoying another vid in some downtime between studying for my first set of exams as an A-tech.. what is cool is some of the generalist OR videos "who's who in OR" even featured in some of our classes!
Would love to see more videos from the Anaesthetic end of the table..loved the interview with surgeon Ken's perspective...Maybe you have an anaesthetist and a tech colleague you could interview too?
I mean surgeons get all the cred for their artistic skill and genius, but the Anaesthetist is the pilot and engineer keeping the lifeline during surgery!!
...keep up the good work

One thing I’m loving right now is knowing and understanding what you’re talking about. For example, you’re mention of using vicryl or monocryl for skin. I’m thinking yeah most of my surgeons use 3-0 vicryl for subcue and 4-0 monocryl for skin.
