Improve your Float Fishing - Part 1

Today I head to Harris Lake on the Marsh Farm complex run by Godalming Angling Society, however the feeder rods have been left at home as this morning session is all about fishing a tactic rarely used nowadays, the 'Wag and Mag'.

It's mid March, daffodils are out in bloom, surrounding trees and just beginning to bud and theirs still a bitter feel to the wind. Casting out the favoured flat-bed feeders for the tench and crucians, especially in the middle of the day will occasionally score, however for me its all about keeping busy and watching that float tip sail away.

What will the session produce? Tench maybe, crucians I doubt, perch possibly but as for the silver fish, roach and Rudd, well it seems that these are thriving.

Hope you enjoy the video and that you get a few tips from it and before hitting the play button, please look for the subscribe button and press it as well as making a comment or two and giving it the thumbs up, it really is appreciated.

I used silicon waggler sleeves for years, but found the line cuts through with repeated casting. Gone over to waggler adapters, so I can vary float size and casting distance. Like most float fishing, a bigger float beats the conditions better than a small one. Love waggler fishing with flake or punch for roach.

Nice video, thanks Duncan.
To build on your big shot instead of a plummet idea, I pinch a small bait band into the shot and hook onto the bait band rather than risk damaging the hook and it’s less likely to lose the shot as well.
Apologies if you mentioned it, but counting how long it takes for the dropper shot to register helps to recognise on the drop bites as you see any change in the routine of the float settling.
Keep ‘em coming. All the Best.

Another excellent video. It's easy to forget how much enjoyment can be had by just fishing a float.

Great video mate. But where’s that funny side kick of yours? 😂

Hi Duncan. Rather than the black marker, do you not use the insert wagglers with the extra tips from Drennan? Once the marker is used, it is permanent. Tight lines
