Before we leave Munich towards Asia and Central America, we had to do this... Because the Oktoberfest is so much more than beer... Here's the proof in 60 seconds!

It all went too fast? Here are the details:

00:00 CONDUCTING
Yes, it is possible to get up there and guest-conduct the band. Just ask behind the stage, and for a certain fee, you will have your 5 minutes of fame.
Thanks for making this possible Hofbräu-Festzelt

00:09 THE TENTS
There are 14 big ones, each in a complete different style and serving different kinds of beer. The Paulaner Festzelt - Winzerer Fähndl has a lovely balcony. The Festhalle Schottenhamel is known to be a very young tent, and it's where each year the first beer barrel is tapped. The Feinkost Käfert is for "the rich and beautiful" with a more private atmosphere and somewhat expensive, but we admit, it's pretty. The Hofbräu-Festzelt is -thanks to its world-famous beer - the tent where you will meet the biggest amount of tourists. A very pretty tent, and one of the biggest parties at the Oktoberfest. Kufflers Weinzelt is for the wine lovers. It serves sparkling wine and champagne, but also Paulaner wheat beer.

00:20 DAS RIESENRAD
The ferris wheel gives you by far the best view over the Oktoberfest. Especially at night, it is a view you will never forget.

00:26 AUTOSCOOTER AND OTHER FUN RIDES
Bumper cars might be the most famous German fairground attractions. The Olympia Looping is the biggest rollercoaster at the Oktoberfest. The Break Dance - Rundfahrgeschäft makes your head spin like never before. The Funhouse is more for family and kids. It has a funny hall of mirrors and a very confusing glass labyrinth. Skyfall - Michael Goetzke, measuring 80 meters, is the highest mobile free fall tower of the world and offers not only big thrills but also a magnificent view over the Oktoberfest.

00:36 HACKER FESTZELT
The Hacker Festzelt is popular with locals and is easily one of the most beautiful tents there are.

00:40 TIPPING
The Wiesn waitresses might be the world's toughest of their kind. They are basically self-employed in the tents. They buy the beer at a central bar and resell it for nearly the same price at the tables. Which means: They work for your tips. Be generous, a 20% tip is common at the Oktoberfest.

00:43 HAU DEN LUKAS
Who doesn't like the popular ring-the-bell game? And yes, it is all about the technique! There are various ones at the Oktoberfest, i.e. the Peter Sachs Hau den Lukas.

00:46 FELDL'S TEUFELSRAD
Teufelsrad One of the most traditional attractions at the Oktoberfest. Try to be the last one to stay on the spinning wheel. And then avoid getting kicked off by a huge pendulum or pulled out by men with lassos. By the way, you can't win anything but the respect of the locals. But that should be more than enough.

00:47 TOBOGGAN
Toboggan Konrad - Schaustellerbetrieb offers a 83 year old attraction that couldn't be more German: Schadenfreude, which means basically the joy of watching someone fail. In this case: (mostly) drunk people trying to surf a conveyor belt. It is actually really funny.

00:51 FOOD AT THE OKTOBERFEST
The Wiesn-Hendl is an obligatory treat. Bavarians don't need side dishes nor cutlery to enjoy their roast chicken.
Also very common and delicious food options: the Swabian Schupfnudeln (with Sauerkraut), the 1/2 Meter Riesenbratwurst, candy apples, chocolate fruits and Steaksemmeln (steak sandwiches). Expect to pay 5-8 Euro for a snack, and as much as 12-30 Euro for a proper meal inside a tent.

01:00 THE TENT, MUNICH
Address: In den Kirschen 30. The Tent, Munich is a summer hostel and may be the cheapest accomodation option in Munich during the Oktoberfest. It is very popular with backpackers and travellers from all around the world. It offers a huge camping ground, beach volleyball, table tennis, bonfires at night and the famous huge tent (600 m²) that can host around 80-100 people. Not for everyone, but definitely an experience.

More information can be found on the official Oktoberfest FB page.

Why did you say the Paulaner was the tent for the rich? In my opinion the Käfer tent is way more posh!
