Sadly, school shootings have become all too common in the United States in recent decades. Every time they go to school, far too many youngsters live in fear of a gunman murdering them and their classmates. However, while the world watches for a week or so after each awful incident, the TV crews eventually leave, leaving the students and their families to deal with the emotional fallout.

She didn't trip over a can. She was having a ptsd episode and thought the guy who stomped on the can was a shooter. (Early sign of her ptsd because she bottled it in for too long - can also be found when she kept shaking in her room, she was not cold, she was keeping things in.)

Nice thanks for explaining. I thought the shooting happened at her sisters school.

Everytime a school shooting happens the wound gets ripped open again for survivors and those who lost loved ones. I think the end of the movie was supposed to make us feel scared and sad and unsettled because that is reality.

Eight people died in the school shooting. There’s a scene where she puts memorial booklets in a box after each funeral, and there’s a total of eight booklets: six boys and two girls.

I feel like her sister saved her life if she wasn’t called to the bathroom then she would still be in class where the shooting takes place and she wouldn’t have gone to the bathroom where she was safe and away from the shooter so I feel like she’s alive because of her little sister and I hate how she felt bad for making her go to the bathroom I don’t think neither of them realize she’s alive because of her

I have never been in a situation like that but this movie somehow made me realize that I might have ptsd from things that I went through in the past, it just connected with me on a different level. Art is beautiful.

This movie demonstrates the numerous ways people deal with trauma. It also gives us a close character study that should increase our compassion towards HOW others deal. Most of the time Vada was trying to evoke emotions within her so she can FEEL something because she shut down and went numb after the incident. This is one of the many ways humans emotionally and physically respond to trauma. It’s a coping mechanism so we can “move on” (brush teeth, pee, eat, walk, work) and eventually live again but it often repressed what actually happened because if it comes to surface too soon we go into shock. The mind is created to self preserve, survive at all cost. At times that means repression and other times it means surfacing trauma.
The body remembers trauma and so it begins to push to back into a corner when your ready to begin “facing the facts” and start your journey to acceptance. This movie is painful to watch yet beautifully shot.

After the more recent tragedy in Texas, The ending is more relatable and hits very hard. It’s smart writing and directing.

Just finished the movie. I was so confused, and honestly wasn’t satisfied, but after reading comments and watching the video I finally understand. It’s as people are saying, it’s basically a loop. As soon as she starts feeling better another tragedy occurred which makes her go into panic mode, and basically makes it to where she had to recuperate again. Pretty genius actually.

Where I live, there was a shooting at the mall a while ago. It was around the time before school started (around the end of July) The shooting was on July 17th of 2022. There was 4 deaths (including the shooter, as he was shot by a guy that had a gun on him for safety) so luckily there wasn’t a lot of deaths. But I feel bad for the 3 peoples families. Around the first two weeks of school, Im in Highschool btw, a Sophomore got shot at his bus stop (R.I.P Temario) on August 25th. A lot of kids were terrified when we were at school that day. In 3rd period, we had an announcement saying for everyone to stay in their classes, and if the bell rings, to not leave. Classes at my school last around an hour, and before the bell, we had an announcement that we can continue on with our school day. Im a Freshman and it’s honestly scary to think about. There was also a rumor about a bomb threat, but it was a post from a different year. Honestly America is so horrible in ways, bc of the shootings. It’s honestly horrible. I wasn’t really very afraid since I didn’t think we would have a shooting, because the kid who got shot, was clearly targeted. I just wish things would change

Thx for explaining I thought it was her sisters school

I understood the ending as she could cried out about the new situation in a way she couldn't do, after the shooting in her own school. I think they also tried to point out it is a flagelo, it could happen again...

As soon as I saw the news notification, the first thing in my mind was "oh my god, her sister" even though the shooting was in another state. I guess that's the feeling of everyone who has a family member who goes to school, every shooting news make your heart drop before you can even rationalize it... Terrifying.

Was it it just me or did everyone think that Mia was confirmed dead cause I thought thats what happened-

The fact that when Vada sees the message from Mia "r u mad at me?" is 4:26 p.m.
At the end of the movie when Vada sees the news about the Ohio shooting, is also at 4:26 p.m.
Amazing movie, Jenna's acting is just so good

I thought that Mia died when the news came and was like “Hasn’t Vada been through enough? “

i thought the ending was that the shooting was that shooting at vada's school(wasn't clear where the school was) and she was dead along with mia and Quentin cause the screen turned white. i thought that would've been really crazy but i'm glad i was wrong

the issue i’m having is, we never saw rekindling with nick, nothing happened with Quentin?, and what happens between mia and vada after the panic attack? so many big plot holes but it’s also film beauty. she left the audience wanting more even though there’s a great chance of no sequel.

Why are people saying there needs to be a part 2? Not everything needs a sequel
