In this new series, we'll be taking a look at a variety of films that had historically troubled productions or controversial problems in making it to the big screen. Some were massive hits despite their problems, while others died a slow box office death. Regardless of where they ended up, we have to ask the question: WTF happened to this movie?

Our latest episode goes to a galaxy far, far away with ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, which had a troubled production when director Gareth Edwards was "helped" by writer/director Tony Gilroy with heavy reshoots and restructuring that may well have been the factor that made the film such a big hit. Join host Ian Michael Jentzsch as he lights speed into this fascinating tale of production woes that ended up making a box office smash!

never will forget how the theatre BLEW UP when vader’s lightsaber started glowing in that hallway

It had a great war theme."We're gonna take that hill or die in the attempt." And they all did. The mission is more important than the individuals.

R1 is my second favorite. Its actually a war, it feels like a war, high stakes and all. People complained about the characters, but that scene when the rebels unite to stand up and fight I fully understood all the terrible things they had done and why doing some good would mean so much. Very underrated film to me

Even with all its flaws, R1 is the best SW movie Disney has offered so far

WTF happened to Rogue One? It became the best Star Wars movie under a Disney production, that's what happened to it.

God damn it! If that Vader hallway scene isn't crowd-pleasing done right, I don't know what is.

Rogue One is the only film that stands with the original trilogy imo. Whatever and however much of the film was re-done, it was absolutely worth it.

Nevertheless, Rogue One is the only Disney Star Wars movie that I actually liked.

As a 32 year old, I feel with Rogue One I finally got “my” Star Wars film. I absolutely love this film and it is the only “NewAge” Star Wars worth a damn.

I also think Rogue One had the most realistic, believable special effects of any of the new SW movies. Not since the original trilogy have I had the impression of a real, lived-in world. If A New Hope had come out in 2016 instead of 1977, it would have looked like this.

I liked the ending. It really highlighted how much was sacrificed to get those deathstar plans which ultimately helped Luke.

It's the only one of the new films that gave me the same feeling as the originals, by far the best of all the new films, the fact that felicity jones is a way better actress than daisy ridley also helped, the cast in general was better in rogue one than the cast in the other new films.

Hey, the original star wars had horrible production issues and was fixed in the editing. Proof that if a director surrounds themselves with a quality team and knows when to step back they can still produce thr best possible.

I absolutely love Rogue One.. it's a phenomenal Star Wars film that now makes a New Hope even that much better. You can watch Rogue One and A New Hope as one long seamless film and it's fantastic.

I loved this movie... 1000 times better than Force Awakens and The Last Jedi... Amazing cinematography and great acting and fits in perfectly with the original trilogy.
