The First Real Images of Ceres - What Have We Discovered?

Did you know that Pluto isn‘t the only dwarf planet in our solar system?
Besides Pluto, there are four other dwarf planets in the galaxy: Haumea, Makemake, Eris and Ceres. Ceres is the smallest of them. And yet the celestial body was once considered a full planet. But that was long before it was discovered how small Ceres actually is. Ceres has an equatorial diameter of just under 600 miles and is thus much smaller than the Earth's moon with its more than 2156 miles. Ceres’ actual size could only be determined a few years ago with the help of the Hubble telescope and the Dawn space probe. Previously, astronomers assumed its diameter was between 373 and 621 miles.

Good video, but, why no information about the bright white spots found on Ceres? That was the hot topic back when the pictures were first coming in.

You misspoke in the beginning. You meant to say 4 other dwarf planets in the solar system but you said Galaxy which of course is not correct.

12 min footage and nothing about the white spots on Ceres? Even when they were shown several times!

I'm just amazed. I had never heard of Ceres before now. I love these videos...thank you for taking the time to post them.

"The water _vapor_ then reaches into space and _evaporates"_ ?? Yeah, I guess it becomes a lot more vaporous in a vacuum. LOL!

In science we use the metric system: meters, kilograms and kelvin...

Four other dwarf planets in the GALAXY? 0:09 I don't mean to split hairs here, but a science video about dwarf planets should have some idea about how big the galaxy is.

_"Besides Pluto, there are four other dwarf planets in the galaxy."_ The narrator of this video actually should have said *solar system* instead of "galaxy."

This is so incredible, to know about a planet when we haven’t even touch down on its planet itself . To have the technology to just see the planet, our lifetime is soooo unique in so many ways. And we’re still improving ✊🏽, improving so fast that me as a 17 year old can potentially see Mars with trees, animals, and later down the road humans .

Lol... I'm just taking an educated guess here but i think there are more than 4 dwarf planets in the entire Galaxy 🤔

I think the white spots are a situation where water vapor escapes from just below the dusty surface . It seems to linger in the craters, and the suns light is reflected back towards earth . there may also be dry ice consisting of frozen carbon dioxide .

If aliens have done any mining in the asteroid belt...which is VERY likely, then Ceres would be the perfect location to set up operations. I really want to see close up views of Ceres.

Did I hear the narrator saying there are only 4 dwarf planets in our galaxy? Is that correct? But iam still giving a thumbs up.. this channel is good

I have always been fascinated by Ceres, some say it even has an icy layer on the surface....

He said there are four additional dwarf planets in the galaxy??? I think there is a hell of a lot more than that! I think he meant to say, “solar system“.😂

In the galaxy? I think you mean there are only 4 dwarf planets in the solar system. You can’t make a claim that you can’t prove.

Sorry Not Galaxie... you should have said Solar System!!!
