I feel like these people aren't familiar with the root scene today, and are thus clueless in regards to the question posed in the title to this video. The fact that Magisk wasn't mentioned until the last minute of the video speak volumes.

Watching this on YouTube Vanced. Screw YouTube Red and ads and limiting background play!

Also running the blex script to forcibly shut down/limit phone dis/charging so as to maximize battery longevity. Given how hard it is to safely remove AMOLED screens to get to the battery to swap it out without damaging it, I'd say that's a noble battery life trade-off to stave off planned obsolescence. I mean, Google already gimps their own fast charging on their P2XL, so I'm well in the safe zone for many years to come.

Finally, I'm running the ElementalX kernel to limit the SoC max frequency to eke out 40% more battery life without suffering appreciable slowdowns.

Rooting android is even more valid in 2019 as Google is bringing more and more restrictions and removing older android features in newer android versions.

I rooted the s**t out of my HTC Sensation, every few days I was praying out a new ROM. Early days of android were a slog in terms of performance a lot of the time, and rooting really helped in that regard. I think android has come a long way and it's just not so necessary anymore.

One of my favorite root/tweaking things was with the HTC One m7. It was so fun being able to change the ID of the phone and make it a Google Play Experience One m7 and going back and forth between that and Sense

1. Learning to root is a double-edged sword.

2. Most see root as a one-way deal that locks one out from future OTA's. You must learn to un-root your devices for updates by installing the original ROM (Factory Image)..

3. OTA updates = Un-root+ Restore factory image + Get OTA + Re-root...done. This procedure applies for warranty service also. Practice makes perfect.

4. Learn the procedures for your device(s). Purchase phones that provide the easiest path to root, and whose manufacturer(s) provide fairly simple bootloader unlocking.

5. Anyone saying root prohibits updates is lying is a hater, works for Google, or incredibly uninformed. Learning half of the procedure, then complaining about losing updates is a YOU problem.

6. Without root, it's the manufacturers/ Google's device. With root, it's yours. As always, knowledge is power.

Several Roms like PE extended, Havoc OS, Resurrection remix, etc are a year ahead of Stock Android. And have really good features which barebones Android lacks.

I had Android Pie within week of Pixel Launch... Thanks to XDA devs.

I have a rooted Sony Z5 Compact but I only rooted it because it's old. I tried using a Lineage-based ROM which was great but I lost several camera features like software stabilization in video, 60 and 120 fps video, the 2-stage camera button which no longer works properly, and noise reduction. Yes I have tried many third party camera apps and none work right. There is no port of the Google Camera for my device.
I eventually went back to stock (still rooted and with TWRP) because my camera is too important. I also realized that root is no longer that important to me compared to when I was still rocking my Galaxy S II. On my Z5c I have Titanium to disable a lot of the Sony bloat, Greenify, and the Z5 FSC thermal fix for the pocket furnace called the SD 810.

The guys who are talking about root switches there phones very frequently so then can't root every phone ....Only a experienced root user can explain the real benifits of root.

I no longer see a need to root. There's a few programs that have root features and yes, adblock is a good reason but other than that I've got better things to do. Plus my Note 8 is too expensive to chance screwing up. All my previous Notes were rooted.

I modded and rooted the hell out of my Max Pro M1 with Magisk. This is my daily driver and I just typed this comment with it. There is still a lot of things that anyone can do with root. It's just isn't really necessary anymore because the things that involve root today is not really "visible", which meant that it's not something that a lot of people would notice, such as optimized GPS, wifi bandwith bonding, AdAway. While tethering is something that everyone needed, these root related things isn't really something that people don't need, or at least don't know that they needed it. Btw, widevine L1 and google pay now can be fixed with some other rooted things, such as a magisk module and such.

I would still recommend root ONCE the OEM stops supporting. In my opinion, this is one of the biggest, most beneficial aspects of root. To continue the life of the device. And, to just get more out of it. Options, freedom, and choice.
