Spanish-American flamenco guitarist and entertainer Charo explains the roots of her infamous phrase, "cuchi cuchi," and why she so often used it on 'The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.'

For those of you making fun of her and judging her. Shes actually extremely intelligent, she's a hyperglot and can speak about 10 different languages, as well as being a master guitarist. She was actually a child prodigie and apprenticed under Andrés Segovia (an extremely famous guitarist. It was like apprentecing under Michelangelo) and went to his school. She is extremely talented at the guitar as well as several other instuements. Arguably one of her most famous songs "sexy sexy" was written by her son, and was supposed to be sold to Brittney Spears. But his mother loved it so much that she kept it for herslef, she's actually a really interesting and intelligent person. Just because she cant articulate herself as good as in english does not make her less intelligent in her own language.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Charo in person when she performed in Hawaii. She is magnificent. She speaks 5 languages. These YouTube videos don't do her justice.

Charo is a guilty pleasure mine. I can't figure out why I like her, but I always have. I guess I respect that she's in on the joke, milks it for everything it's worth, even if it overshadowed her musical talent. She was my favorite recurring guest in the talk show Merv Griffin used to have.

This amazing woman is one of the most underrated and undervalued artists of our time; she’s smart (speaks ten languages), she’s talented (plays classical Spanish guitar at least as well as Segovia), and has a great sense of humor. I adore her.

To think I only learned today or her incredible talent as a guitarist. I think she enjoys the sexy camp aesthetic so much, it sort of overshadowed her technical brilliance in the broader public perception of her. But I also think that branding that she enjoys so much is partly why she is so successful. Combining her guitar skill with one of the brightest personalities of the past century was nothing short of artistic genius. And to top it all of she's a polyglot with all those languages under her belt. Extremely clever woman!
