I recently did some research on this subject. When the Muslims entered Jerusalem in the 600s, they brought the Jews back to the city (the Romans threw them out). When the crusaders conquered Jerusalem 500 years later, half of Jerusalem was Jewish. The Jews were generally treated very well while living as a minority under the Muslims. This modern conflict is over extremist ideologies (like Zionism), not so much Jews vs Muslims.
