20 killed as Israel launches air strikes in Gaza after Hamas rocket attack following clashes

Violence has erupted in Jerusalem today with officials claiming at least 20 people have been killed by Israeli air strikes after Hamas launched a terrifying rocket attack.

Israel's military said it carried out strikes against armed groups and rocket launchers in Gaza after militants crossed a "red line" by firing on the Jerusalem area for the first time since 2014.

The fire fight continues to rage tonight, with Palestinians reporting loud explosions close to Gaza City and across the coastal strip.

Nine children are among the dead, officials in Palestine said.

Shortly before midnight local time, Israel's military said Palestinian militants had fired around 150 rockets into Israel, of which dozens were intercepted by its missile defence systems.

This happens when a country like Palestine (Hamas) and Lebanon (Hezbollah) harbor, and support militant foreign "sympathizers" to use their countries as staging ground for their distorted ideological/religious expansionist pursuits. So sad, they become unwittingly the collateral damage, their lives lost, their infrastructure reduced to rubble, and their livelihood gone. They should insist to govern themselves, their country without the interference of others--they can do it! It's time to assert their autonomy by diplomatic and peaceful means with the help of the nations of the world.
