For many Beginner students, the Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet may seem quite weird and challenging. That shouldn't avert you. Take it as a different code system, just like when learning music or coding. Some letters may look familiar to you, and others may not. So, in order to not get confused, I’d advice you to try to not compare the Cyrillic alphabet to the Latin alphabet, just try to switch your thinking to learning something completely new.

The Russian alphabet has 33 letters, 10 of them are vowels. From the video, you'll learn how to pronounce each letter correctly.

* Some letters are repeated twice

0:00 - Intro
0:41 - Ъ and Ь
1:15 - Alphabet А to З
1:31 - И and Й
2:03 - К to Я
3:05 - an advice on How you can remember the Russian Alphabet better:

Read the first three letters, А-Б-В, then the next three, Г-Д-Е. Take as much time as you need to remember them. Then repeat the whole line, А-Б-В-Г-Д-Е. Then move on the same way to the second line, ЁЖЗ-ИЙК. And afterwords, repeat the both lines together.

The main idea behind that is, that you remember a small patch at a time, then learn another small patch. Then you repeat them together. Then you add another small piece, and after that repeat the three pieces together, and so on. It's generally a great way to learn anything.

Continue doing the same with the rest of the letters, don't rush yourself, and you’ll become much more familiar with the alphabet.

📖 Proverbs used in this video:
* Я - последняя буква в алфавите ("Я" is the last letter in the alphabet, meaning "Don't be so selfish talking just about yourself")
* Повторение - мать учения (literally: Repetition is the mother of learning, meaning "The more you repeat, the better you remember")

Here, you'll Learn Russian with ease and no time wasted 👍

I feel so fortunate to have found this channel! When Covid subsides to the extent that travel is allowed to Russia, I will be travelling to Petrozavodsk to attend a 14 week Russian language intensive course. In the meantime, I will be learning what I can online. What a stroke of luck to have happened upon Russian Comprehensive! Many thanks for this excellent resource!👍

How can I not leave a comment to such a well-planned and detailed lesson? Thank you so much.
I was trying self-learning Russian and was lost after memorizing like 100 words and phrases and...discovering that they had weird sound rules.
Now I know why.
Going to watch all your lessons! Bless you :D

The great advice that я is at the end. Both Russian and Indian culture preach humility.

"They used to be vowels around a hundred years ago" - SEVERAL hundreds, if not a thousand. 100 years ago was damn 1921.

Spoiler alert: Most Russian letters which are not the same as latin are Greek. The remainder are Hebrew or variants of Hebrew to account for sounds in Russian which are not in you guessed it Greek, Latin, or Hebrew.
You are divinely beautiful.
