I knew an Armbian distro was being worked on but like yourself I am gobsmacked how quick this has become available.

Hugely impressive indeed after such a short space of time, which indicates just how good this SBC and the RK3588 in general is, which means that both user and community support are certain to grow very quickly. With AMLogic nowhere to be seen right now with their new SOC, this one could dominate in 2023. I'm very happy with mine and has been the best value purchase in a while. I only wish that Orange Pi themselves would pull up their socks with regards to support and development.

Great....once the graphics support improves this board will be excellent. Can't wait for mine to arrive!

I seriously can't conceive HOW THE FU- the Armbian team manages to be that fast and efficient. Because this ain't the first SBC they have speedruned, just mind blowing

Just checked the Armbian site and now they have instructions for Enable 3D Acceleration.

I knew they were working on it but to get it sorted so quickly is awesome so thanks for doing a video on this.

Thank you so much for posting on the Orange Pi 5, really appreciate it. I haven't been able to get Android to boot, but I have tried the other 2 Linux options from their site and wasn't thrilled with them. I will be giving this one a try now and see if that goes better.

I have concerns about the linux images from Orange Pi, related to security, Armbian appears to be much better!

Loving your Orange Pi 5 videos and loving my OPi 5. It's noticeably more powerful than the RPi 4! Like others, I've been concerned about the Huawei repos so Armbian is a nice alternative. I tried the XFCE version and it works pretty well (except the video issue mentioned in the video). I then ran minimal Armbian and Tasksel but get an error when trying to install the DE. :(

Great video, I'm thinking to buy an orange pi 5, and this is very useful because other linux distros doesn't seems run well on the board, but armbian looks awesome, and hopefully they are working on it

Hey, another great video! Just got my board so trying out some of the ones you suggested.. If you end up using the nvme to boot up that would be a great video on how to migrate the os to the nvme... Cheers

I agree, Armbian is much better than the Original Orange Pi images that link into Huawei hosted repositories in China. The Orange Pi Hardware/boards work excellent (just keep them cooled down with a cooling fan). I have been using Red Hat/Fedora on my laptop and desktop for a long time, so the use of Armbian/Debian Linux wasn't too bad to adjust to (it just took some time to make my peace with it). I just want Fedora to start making images that work with modern Orange Pi Boards/support more of these boards.

I dabbled around with Armbian today and figured out how to set up the sudoers file so it wouldn't prompt anyone in the sudo group for a password. I modified a line in the /etc/sudoers file. The line was changed to %sudo ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL It seems to work just fine, since administrative privileges are needed to add users to the sudo group to begin with. :)

OPI5 micro desktop case for the orange pi 5. If you search "micro case orange-pi-5 " you will find it. The case design is half 3d printed and half cut with a CNC/LASER cutter.

Thanks I went looking for this a couple days ago. I didn't see it. This might have just been uploaded. If you hadn't done the video, I wouldn't have gone back for awhile. Android 12 is just awful. It can't handle my spare monitor - 20 yr old LG with 1680x1060. That's oddball these days but I have never had anything not work on it before. I thought that the OP 5 was broken for a minute. The guys on XDA Developers are just starting to get theirs so maybe we'll see something else to play with soon.
