Neuropsychiatric Clinical Presentation of Mold Illness

We’re all familiar with mold. You may have wiped it off your bathroom sink, found it on an old leather coat in the back of your closet, or seen it in your shower. But there’s another type of mold—one that lurks behind the walls, in air ducts, and in crawl spaces that can wreak havoc with your brain health. This type of black mold (Stachybotrys) is actually a toxin that releases toxic gas and spores into the air. When the toxins are inhaled or enter your body through your skin’s pores, the toxic gases can disrupt healthy brain function and impact behavior.

Exposure to toxic mold is becoming more common, in part due to construction trends. Homes in America are typically constructed using wood and drywall, where mold thrives. Even worse, did you know that half of the buildings in the United States—schools, hotels, and more—may be water damaged? This makes them prime breeding grounds for mold.

More About Dr. Cornish:

Dr. Cornish specializes in the treatment of Lyme Disease, environmental toxicity, methylation disorders, and Morgellons Disease among other chronic conditions. Dr. Cornish’s approach to the treatment of chronic disease is to find the root cause of a person’s health problems by performing a comprehensive evaluation of the body’s various biological systems and takes an approach based on integrative strategies of healing.

Thank you for this my 15 year old son has been dealing with many of the symptoms discussed. They keep treating him as strictly psychological with drugs which haven't helped. Anger, delerium, mood swings, unsteady gate. This has come on so fast since moving into an historic home with known mold issues. youtube algorithm brought your podcast to me and I feel so relieved. I have been sick almost all my life and never knew why and never got very well. I recently moved into a house with toxic mold and I have gotten very sick. Now I know, my life long sickness was from mold sensitivity. I found an NP who specializes in similar things as you. I have been diagnosed with CIRS. I will be moving soon from the moldy house and the very humid climate to a desert region with low dew points. With the help of the NP and the single digit dew points, I am anticipating to start feeling better. This moldy house is even affecting my dog and cat. I wish I had a happy Amen Clinic story to share. Unfortunately, they wanted to put me on 5 meds and my son on 3. I had brain inflammation caused by tick illness, and mold illness (neither of which they diagnosed). I also had post concussion syndrome, and my son has a TBI. Can honestly say, Amen Clinic was a waste of time and money. We have both received TMS therapy, and it was phenomenal. We both highly recommend TMS, and do not recommend Anen Clinic unless you are a celebrity.
