Sidious absolutely went into the fight fully serious and intending to kill.

Sidious risked everything, his plot, his physical appearance, and his own life.

Alternatively, people could watch the scene and actually pay attention. Windu already had Palpatine on the floor and at saberpoint, and beaten his lightning, BEFORE Anakin arrived. Anakin didn’t even get there until after Palpatine had lost. It makes no sense for Palpatine to intentionally throw a fight to prey on the emotions of a person that isn’t even there.

If Sidious had won the fight and actaully managed to kill Mace before Anakin arrived, Sidious would've pointed at Windu's body and said: "He tried to kill me! I told you it would come to this! I was right... The Jedi are taking over!..."

I think it's not gotta do with how powerful Mace Windu is or how powerful Palpatine is
They had a lightsaber duel in which Mace Windu used the form of Vaapad which gives him significant advantage over Palpatine
Take Dooku and Windu in a lightsaber duel, both in their prime, Dooku fights with the calmness of a Jedi while Windu tries to figure out weak spots using Vaapad but it would not be much effective against Dooku

So those who dont know Mace Windu created his own style wich made the enemies anger against them and he used it perfectly against Sidius and that was the only reason he didnt die in the first moments of the fight so yeh Mace Windu beated Palpatine using the dark side basically wich is allowed if u can u can control it (example: force crush used by Mace Windu in clone wars 2004 crushing the lungs of General Grivues thats why he is coughing a lot the second user is Luke Skywalker we saw this used in The Mandalorian series where Luke used it against the dark troopers) and both Luke and Mace Windu was able to control the dark side and thats why Mace Windu had a purple lightsaber and Luke had a Red shoto lightsaber (honorable mention of dark and light side user: Darth Raven
He was in his ship but the jedi council had enough of him so they tried to murder him and his apprentice realized this and shoot at the ship part where the jedis and Darth Raven was and the jedi barely survived but Darth Raven has lost his memory so the jedi council used this up and he became a jedi)

i suspect its likely sidious legit lost but when he sensed anakin nearby he chose to do a gamble make himself even more defenseless position then he had already been forced into just to further try and gain anakin's sympathy even if it put him in a worse situation then he was it was the only gamble he had left why he chose to continue using force lightning despite the harm he was doing to himself even though he probably had other powers he may have been able to do like maybe a force barrier or such

Windu won fair and square but Sidious needed Anakin/Vader. Sidious had to tempt Anakin earlier cause he knew he needed an apprentice to overcome the Jedi.

Na palpatine lost to windu because palpatine wasn’t sure if anakin would help he wasn’t completely corrupted yet so I doubt it

I like the idea that Sidious did genuinely lose the duel but he was still the one in control. His hand fly up at the last second when Mace is swinging his saber down to kill him. This implies he would have unleashed more force lightning if anakin hadnt saved him

Not even close to true, we can all see Sidious letting WIndu go and then the fight gets more serious. Even if Sidious wasn't just pretending to be exhausted from fighting 4 Jedi, that doesn't explain away his decision to let WIndu live earlier. And Windu beating him after that point is understandable. But there's another reason why people think he let Windu win. He literally says 'unlimited power' as he's shocking the disarmed Windu which seems to be indicating that he was just pretending to be weak the whole time. Now I don't believe that, furthermore, it would be a believable way for someone to lie to someone that they're killing. You tell them 'yeah bro, I wasn't even getting tired!' and it's like a way to insult their intelligence. Which if you think about it, makes a ton of sense. Because Sidious spared Windu, Windu could have reacted by just walking away, and then Sidious would just let him live since he has so much power already. Windu might have to go into exile out of shame for not killing Sidious, but at least he'd still be alive. By committing to a life or death battle that Sidious spared him from, he made the decision that it was either him or Sidious. So Anakin forced Windu to back down by taking away his hand using his lightsaber. Anakin wasn't trying to pick between the two people, he was actually just trying to save everyone. And in the process he was trying to make Windu back down from his resolve, but he failed as you can see.
