I met up with Dr Sam a couple of weeks ago to discuss in a little more detail pigmentation, acne scarring and melasma.

What's the difference? How do you treat them? What shouldn't you do?

thanks for addressing women of colour! when I was a child, teachers would always provide sunscreen to white kids but tell us Asians and black kids that we didn't "need" it so growing up I never bothered. I realise now that dark skin doesn't make us immune to skin cancer like I was told to believe. And it really is so difficult finding good drugstore concealers for brown skin, I had to buy Nars and I'm a student :/

"please ask about darker skin, please please please" then BOOM Caroline reads my mind. Thank you. Really thank you. Also Dr Sam thank you for the informative chat. Ahhhh I could listen/chat about skincare all day and night

I find videos like this so informative and interesting, thanks a million ladies! Gave you a big shoutout in part 1 of my new acne q&a Caroline, your blog/videos are fantastic :) I'm nervous about getting laser done to tackle my scars, apparently it takes 3 to 10 days for the face to 'heal'!? Eep. Such good points about SPF, can I ask what would yous recommend to someone wearing a base (for re-application) I gotta say I'm useless at reapplying haha x

Hello Caroline, many thanks for this video. I have been fighting my melasma for 3 years and this was the most straight forward, accurate video I could find. x

This one video has more information packed into it than many other videos out there. Thank you so much!

This video is pushing me to live that Jackie O lifestyle - bring on the big hats and sunnies!

Great videos, just hard to hear sometimes when someone talks too fast. Maybe you could consider adding subtitles or playing with the audio clarity. I found it hard to watch any of the videos when I can't hear 30% of what they are saying.

I love both your voices and your accents - I could listen to you two talk all day. I know it sounds borderline creepy :x but honestly I love these informative videos/chats. More please!!

What a pleasure to find this on my lunch break! So interesting (even though I don't actually suffer from this), so thank you both Caroline Hirons and Dr. Sam. Looking forward to the next instalment.
And one question - which is the Avene sun block Dr. Sam mentioned?

Firstly, may I say how much I enjoy your videos, Caroline. You're hugely informative but funny and we need as much of that as we can get, I think.

Regarding SPF, I'm a bit slack in this regard, I always put a high SPF on after I do my skincare in the morning but how does one re-apply every 90 minutes to two hours - over makeup? Take the makeup off and start again? Probably stupid questions but no one has ever enlightened me on this.

TIA.

I was perplexed when saw a video of Dr Sam Bunting where she said acne prone skin should not use facial oils and face powder. I was often told that because facial oils "balance" the excessive secretion of sebum, they are beneficial for oily acne prone skin. Also, I never read anywhere that recommended against using a face powder on acne prone skin. No matter how fine the powder is, it sits on top of the sunscreen and foundation, so I never thought they are capable of filling up my pores. Were all these "knowledge" I had about facial oils and powder incorrect? I would really like to hear Caroline and Dr Bunting's opinion. Anyway, thanks a million for another incredibly informative video! I wish good doctors like Dr Bunting who takes acne very seriously as a disease but with an aesthetic approach are easier to find. Most cosmetic dermatologists I met were too neglectful and money driven - they simply recommended the most expensive cutting-edge treatment to anyone instead of providing the right treatment for each individual patient.

Hey. Any chance on a video more focusing on dry, eczema prone skin? Most of these Dr Sam videos are acne, oily related so I was just wondering if there are any dry skin videos planned or in the works?

Wow! What a great discussion! Thank you both so much. Now I know why certain spots have faded with time and others (melasma on my upper cheeks) are so intractable.

Excellent video! So glad you touched upon the darker skin tone issue, I'm mid 20's South Asian olivey/yellow complected and have found it very difficult matching up to shades. I also have darker skin around my mouth (around 2-3 shades darker than the rest of my face) and have had it there for as long as I can remember, foundation makes the area grey since the colour matches the rest of my face only. I thread my upper lip. Is it melasma? I know a lot of Indian/Asian girls/women that have this issue. Do you have any advice or suggestions? Would be immensely appreciated! Thank you

This is so interesting! I have dark spots on my face and back... I have a budget and tbh I am so clueless with things like this and what acids/products to use etc! What would you recommend for those of us on a budget? A new video idea maybe ? :) x

Thank you so much for this video - I developed brown pigment marks under my eyes after taking the contraceptive pill for several years but also have large brown patches over forehead and cheeks and have never been able to get a 'flawless finish' with makeup no matter how hard I've tried. I never realised it was 'something' until this video, I always thought it was something I had done wrong or I'd somehow not taken care of my skin properly. But, now it all makes a bit more sense! :) x

Are Kojic acids the same as Azelaic acids? I'm just asking as I'm tempted to purchase SkinCeutical's Phyto + and wanted to double check whether you approve. Would use it to treat hyper pigmentation (which is still reddish). Thanks!
