Ableton Live 12 is the Most MIDs Paid Update Ever!

Ableton Live 12 was announced earlier today & I think it's mids at best. You would expect this company to come harder (pause) seeing Image Line dropped a bigger free update for FL Studio a few weeks ago.

I love so much of what they are updating because it's almost all stuff that just in general should have been there all along... but it does feel like it should have been a free update. 11.5 or something.

Nobody is talking about the real problems of FL studio which are:
Mixer routing, automation, Recording, beat slicing, Patcher, make new instance of that midi clip to modify its notes, changing the color and the name of the playlist traks when youre trying to link the Channel rack with the playlist tracks and the mixer tracks/ workflows, everything in FL has an extra 2 steps for such a beautiful flawless workflow in Ableton.
That is the biggest differences that nobody talks.

FL 22 will allow you to put a chip in your brain to make beats in your mind, Ableton 13 will update their nudge feature 💀

I was on Ableton 10 until last year, the only reason I got 11 was because I got a super discount. I won’t get 12 until there’s a major update with a major discount.

I JUST paid off my ableton live 11 payment plan…

I don’t get why everyone compares Ableton to FL. They seem like 2 incredibly different things.

I feel like the update makes Ableton seem and look more complex. What I like about Ableton is how simple it is to use.

I def agree ! I'm a pro Ableton user for 8 years. Hit us with a mid update we should have had years ago. They should work on simpler to have free time stretch like Serato and get rid of the 5X 10X dumb A%$ stretch feature. off the soap box. good day.

if you bought logic on the app store when it came out, you wouldn't have to pay a penny for any upgrades to this day

I wanted to disagree cause I use Ableton and it’s been good to me, but you presented a good case. You got my like. This should be a regular update imo.

Workflow wise, 12 is definitely worth buying when you are coming from 10 like myself, which is what I did.

Agree. It’s a welcome update, but it’s underwhelming. I’ve been a serious Live user 15 years, so I’m not a hater. But honestly, live 11 is buggy as hell and I’m not sure it’s all been ironed out, yet. Now they want money for quality of life updates that have been present in other DAWs for years?! I just bought 11 this summer after finally reading that it’s a bit more stable and they drop 12? Geez. I bought a full copy of FL Studio on a whim two weeks ago and I’m having fun with it, so I’ll just ride with that until further notice

Am I the only one who thinks stem seperation is pretty useless? Great you seperated the drums out of that 70's song. Now pay 10k to use it. If you're lucky.

Ok fair enough, this update brings Abletons pianoroll up to par with FL. But that's not a small thing. Add the enormous amount of great devices and insane MIDI control upgrade (internal and external) and they beat FL Studio and Cubase at their game. Or at least matched them and combined.

I hear this "mid" sentiment a lot, but I don't see it. Who knows, maybe they even brought up their modulation game on the level of Bitwig. That's some Captain Planet power.

ableton is not a flashy DAW. They don't need to add groundbreaking updates every time. The software looks basically the same as when it first came out, which is why I like it. If it ain't broke dont fix it. Also the granulation is a sick addition

The MIDI tools alone are easily worth the upgrade price. Then you get an upgrade for the Granulator, a new MPE synth and a multi-stage distortion. Anybody bitching about the value has clearly not bought any eggs, chicken or timber lately.

This is my thing. You're calling it mid from the trailer ..but didnt even try the beta. ORRRR even look at the other Live 12 tutorials before jumping out the window. Im not an Ableton Fan boy either.. but I use it. but I use Logic which is my MAIN.. and FL Studio.. So Im pretty familiar with all 3. But check out Live first before you just say its Mid. One thing I do agree on is this couldve definitely been an 11 update. Like 11.2. 11.3 etc etc.. So making it 12 does feel like a possible money grab.. BUT it's a pretty good update. not GREAT.. but good.. and THIS is only 12.0. It's going to get better

dude! Come on Abelton? We need stem separation and global key like Serato Studio.

I'm fan-boying over seeing the mixer in arrangement. It took long enough.

I bought 11 not quite 2 years ago. It was a bit too buggy (including high processor usage) for my patience for a fair few months. So I will certainly hold off upgrading. But… there has been a few cool updates through 11, particularly Drift and MPE. I’m sure 12 will have more goodies to come. The “Top” Suite upgrade pre order with 20% discount is £143…. Its tempting but… nah! They gotta work a bit harder than giving me automatic music making tools… I’m not into that. I hit the notes like a rabid monkey and pick the best bits.
A better drum grid UI would be nice, and you’re right… Live’s piano roll is not the best, i find it tedious.
A problem Ableton the company got is that (more than) most the functionality needed is there already… particularly if you’ve been using peoples Max devices.
New users… they’re probably getting a great deal with 12. Its Close to 200 for me without the discount…. I’m gonna need more goodies thrown in.
Stay Safe Ave!
