Not tearing your lats while lifting is a good way to get them to grow.

Maybe the muscle maturity look is just the skin thinning and collagen content decreasing with age

A before and after photo to supplement the explanation would be great.

He has so much muscle he doesn't look tall he looks very short in fact, until he has someone else beside

PD: the responses to this comment are stupid I'm saying that slim people look taller while fat/hypermuscular look smaller, in this case Cbum is starting to look very short and you guys are talking about something else that doesn't have anything to do with it.

Dude I have said that with strength and muscle mass, the biggest determining factor aside from genetics gear and hard work which are all givens at the top level, is how long you have been training for, aka muscle maturity. It simply takes time to grow muscles, it's the opposite of run/jump athleticism, which peaks extremely early, and is at its height before you can even drink in the USA for most ppl. Hypertrophy and strength mature much later, athletes are often at their biggest ever well into their 30s

The term Grainey was coined for Dorian Yates. 👌 Conditioning was off the scale for his time.

That "muscle maturity" explanation needs to be spread across *all* workout/gym social media.
That's the reason young men shouldn't take steroids because time and consistency will lead to that look BUT... unfortunately because it is Cbum and he is a "one of one" successful bodybuilder that has been on cycles it won't resonate.

Muscle gets more pronounced even if you don't see it immediately. That's why the occasional "check-in selfie" is important, so you can see the progress away from flexing in a mirror everyday where you can't register improvement clearly. You won't see it if you constantly focus on how you look instead of the work. It's the irony of focus, the more intensely you look the less you'll see it.

(But yeah a YT short probably isn't the place for this chat either...)

I can see what he means. I see the maturity. It’s like, it is muscle that is engrained vs blown up

I think it's very telling that he calls it "soft fluffy muscle". It's literally as simple as when you've trained for longer you have more muscle tissue. So at the same physical size there's more muscle and less fat so the condition looks better.

This is one of those things, the science based lifters will argue it doesn't exist.. but looking at a 18yo and 40yo side by side... the muscle literally looks different.

I don't if everyone else is noticing this as well that Cbum is quiet an inspiration for us young guys who go to the Jim, most the advice he gives we take it because we see him more as a future version of ourselves

I feel like this just means you’ve actually turned it into muscle and it’s not just water weight or glycogen
