A church in Indiana has seen about 80 percent of its members leave after a gay choral director was forced out over his sexual orientation.

Adam Fraley told The Herald Bulletin that he worked for the United Methodist Church in Alexandria for six years and attended with his partner. When a new minister took over the church last year, Fraley said that he resigned because of pressure about his sexual orientation...

I had Mr. Fraley as an educator in middle-school. He was a kind, respectable person that one could consider a role model. I'm so pleased that 80% of the church defended him, because a human being this good deserves that.

Wow, good for the congregation at that church. It is very encouraging to see some Christians beginning to act morally like these people have.

Indiana. WAIT!! Are you SURE it's Indiana you're talking about. I live in Indiana and it's a northern Southern Red State and Alexandria is a small town in the middle of no place between Fort Wayne and Indianapolis.

Ok, a quick google and OMFG this happened in Indiana. As a 'recovering Methodist' I say BRAVOS with applause to the AWESOME parishioners that took such a risk in a small town to stand by Mr Fraley!!!

As they say in the south, this good news has given me the vapors and I must fetch a 'beverage' to soothe my nerves.

I have so much respect for the congregates who quit their church over it, it's nice to see some people say no to letting their "religious" leaders speak on their behalf, I hope this becomes a trend.

As a church musician, I can tell you that not only are there quite some homosexual clergy personnel, but in the music worship, man oh man, it's way more liberal than any outsider would assume.  The congregation in this church just showed what true Christianity is about: it's to love other people as yourself.

In the states where it's still legal to fire someone over the perception or reality of their sexual orientation - every time someone is fired - for whatever reason - they should add on the phrase in their termination letter "Oh, we think you are heterosexual and that is one of the reason for your termination from employment."  The church should fire their minister on the grounds that he's heterosexual - maybe he might get enlightened?

I'm glad there are people out there who are accepting.

The church is commanded to expel anyone who claims to be a believer yet is living an evil lifestyle. See 1 Corinthians chapter 5

Considering that this is Indiana I find it shocking.

I have learned over the years, that when it comes to people being fired from their jobs, what they say that their own facts are - and what the employer's facts are - are often two different stories.    You really have no idea what really went on here.  You have no idea if there were other issues involved in his departure.

All praise to the people who would NOT go to the back of the bus. The sooner this issue is seen for what it is, the last refuge of white male privilege, the better. And now the gays have decided, they don't have to be invisible any more. Well good for them.

I completely support this church's right to get rid of this man because of his sexuality.

I wholeheartedly support his homosexuality, but a private members club for adults, has the right to set _any_ criteria it likes for membership or employment.

If it was a pro-life club, everyone would recognise their right not to hire a fiercely pro-choice activist. Why is this different?

When it comes to kids, such as the scouts, I err more in favour of the individual rather than the organisation.

Gotta love the cognitive dissonance of religious moderates cherry picking scriptures and dogmas, then excluding those that clash with modern morality ...

I attended this church. You may not love the sin, but you can love the sinner...and yes, I have left. I wrote a speech to present to the Sunday school class about the topic and the minister was in there as well. I guess it was pretty good because I got him to walk out of the room! Being only 15 it's a shame it's this way.
