Pen is often an all-purpose word for barreled ink/pigment/dye/paint filled items journalers and artists use. Also, there are things like glue pens, eraser pens. If it's got that barrel. Some may just call all their tools like this pens. Even colored pencils in a pen cup.

In some countries Pens are the only term used- it's only a marker if its for a white board.
