Boondocking - Home Made Truck Canopy Camper Setup, Camping In Winter -10 Degrees

Made my own "truck camper" under the canopy in the box of my pickup truck. Took it out to give it a try at Walmart, and this will be a good addition to my camping possibilities. Good setup for logging roads, back country. Would need a few tweaks for true urban stealth camping, but it could work if done correctly.

I built my truck camper when I found out I had cancer..Have been off work since April..in between chemo I go camping in my truck. It's the best thing I've ever done. I wish I wouldn't have waited until I was dying to start living..

I call these episodes, “Vintage Steve”. So much has change since these episodes, except Steve. Always genuine.

Steve is the friend that anybody would want to have...I like his soft and calm voice...A model to follow really...

Steve is an adult who never forgot the fun of being a kid, grabbing all the blankets in the house and building forts with tables and chairs in the backyard. This is why I like Steve. He never forgot the fun and adventure of being a kid...

After watching your video, it gave me the idea to try it out in my own truck. I live in MN so it's pretty cold right now but not below freezing yet. I kissed my family and bid them goodnight before heading out for my own adventure. Minutes later, I was back in my "warm" house and decided to leave cold camping to the pros. Hopped into bed and watched another one of your videos.

Interesting video. I actually lived in my truck for over 6 months 6 years ago and trust me, it wasn't by choice. I was unemployed and homeless. I would have loved to have this minimal set up at that time. It was averaging -14f that winter. Funny thing is, after I found a kick-ass job and was able to buy a nice house, I'd still sleep in my truck alot for the first few months. I just felt safer. (Truck is was paid for) I still kinda miss being homeless. My stress level was way less believe it or not. Had to do with nobody could take anything else from me. I still own that truck. I might just set it up for just in case. It's my dump run truck now. That's all I use it for. Lol. Life is weird.

I lived out of my grand Cherokee for a year. Traveled all over the states. Took side jobs from craigslist to earn money, No stress nothing. I camped out in the wilderness, couldn't stand walmart. Best experience I've had. I would definitely do it again!

I have a beautifully restored home here in PA and though I don't have a pickup truck I do own a 1981 pop-up camper. I keep it set up in my brothers field in New Jersey and try to stay in it on weekends. It's hard to explain but I sleep 10 times better in my old camper than I do in my house and the food always tastes better in the field whether it's a hot dog or a can of tuna. I love the simple outdoor life and find it to be therapeutic. I'm 59 and some of my family members think I'm off my rocker at times but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Normalcy can be quite boring if you ask me. Enjoy your boondocking trips to Walmart, I think it's awesome :)

Watching in 2023, a lot of water under the damn for Steve since this was videoed. Some good times and some unimaginable horrible times. I doubt that when Steve made this he had any idea how huge his channel would become. Thanks for all the entertainment my friend.

How can 1.1k people dislike this video. This guy's not hurting anyone hunkering down. And just having a good time

The rest of my subscriptions are nothing like this guy's videos, but this is quickly becoming my #1 favourite channel.

Never in my life have I thought about camping like this or his other adventures, but after finding this channel last week, it's all I want to do. I wish I found this channel sooner!

Man, I've been doing this in the back of my Highlander for a few years now. Makes me feel like a little less of a POS when I see others do it. Some people just don't realize they can travel and see the world if done with a minimalist mindset. I'm not poor by any means, but paying for hotels puts a big damper on the amount of fun I can have. Also can't beat the protections from grizzlies/mountain lions/wolves when camping in the Backcountry.

In life we can always come up with ideas on how to live, how to eat, how to survive but it's the loneliness from being alone that's hard to overcome, be nice to each other regardless of their status.
