I tried asking my parents once about how much they make and bills etc..I was told it's none of my business. So yes, I wasn't educated in finance in any way. Went through a bankruptcy in 2005. Learned how to live on the money I make. Wish I could jave found Dave 20 years ago. I have only found you Dave in the last 6 months. Now I'm teaching my 10 year old about bills and how to avoid credit card debt.

I can finally say after 2 years I’m finally debt free at 23 years old. I was paying a lot of “stupid tax” but now I’m on my way to saving as much as possible with my partner.

I have to share that it took me 5 months to complete baby step 1, but I did it!
Also in those 5 months, even though I had not completed a single baby step, I already started to feel the financial peace because I learned to put my 4 walls first and everything else after.
If you are just starting out, keep going and trust the process.

Live on less than you make.
Live on a plan (budget).
Pay off debt.
Learn to save and invest.
Generosity.

Belief.
I am in control of my own money.
I am in control of my own financial decisions. Which means i fight tooth and nail to get to where i wanna be, because i believe it is possible.
These options matter.
Your choices matter.
Your actions matter.

I had a financial plan laid out when I was 12 years old in 1973. My parents taught me these values. I found time to go to school, play sports and work my butt off at various jobs. I paid cash for my first car and paid for my own insurance at 16 y/o. I started my first fulltime job at 18 and invested from day one. Yes, I borrowed money for my first house and new car, but I paid everything off as quickly as possible. I have been 100% debt free since 1994, long before anyone ever heard of Dave Ramsey. I retired very comfortably at 60 and am enjoying a very happy, healthy and active retired life. I can attest that Dave is 100% correct in his approach. It's just a shame that he has to teach you instead of your parents. But I guess if we all listen and apply everyone wins.

I stopped using credit cards and using debit/cash since beginning of February. Waiting for my next paycheck to pay the rest of it down. I've had it!

Personal opinion on poverty:
You live what you know.

What you see from the people you grow up around you is what you know. Lack of financial education at school or education in life on money, like don’t live above your means, like why debt is not the answer etc.

The Brookings Institute came up with three steps for poor teens to get out of poverty:
1- Complete high school
2- Work full time
3- Get and stay married, but wait until age 21 to have children.

I have agreed with everything besides the giving. I gave and gave to people only to get screwed out of alot of things. I guess I helped the wrong people but I am never giving again do to the amount it set me back in life. Maybe in the future I will but I will not go outta my way anymore for people who act like they need when they don't.

Buying a stock is easy, but buying the right stock without a time-tested strategy is incredibly hard. Hence what are the best stocks to buy now or put on a watchlist? I’ve been trying to grow my portfolio of $560K for sometime now, my major challenge is not knowing the best entry and exit strategie;s ... I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

When I got divorced after 3 decades, I decided to live like a college student until I had a good financial footing for my future. I didn’t have debt, but I also didn’t have any savings. I was told by friends it was irresponsible for a single woman to have a used car, and the inexpensive apartment I moved into close to work was in a bad part of town. My best friend refused to ride in my car (embarrassed), felt uncomfortable coming to my home for dinner (at the time my dishes came from a thrift store), and bought me pepper spray because she was worried about me walking into my apartment. I didn’t tell her at the time, but my marriage was a lot more embarrassing and dangerous than starting over. I understand why people overspend to keep up with appearances. I saved $40K during that season of my life but lost some friends.
