Engineering is one of the few careers that actually really needs to require college to do.

As an engineer can confirm AI cannot do what we do

People see Chat GPT write up a barely coherent essay that isn’t even creative and think AI will be capable of doing extremely complicated math and physics in like 4 years.

Engineer here: Yes hes totally right, please stop studying engineering so in 8 years I will get paid even more because there will be less engineers but we will actually need more. Real talk: Dont listen to this muppet

Engineering seems to be a veey popular degree specifically mechanical, I am friends with a group of a round 20 people, 7 (myself included) of us are hoping to go for mechanical.

If engineers get replaced then their will be no more jobs. Engineering is by far the hardest jobs to be truly good at. First you must be good at the technical side, while also understanding how math doesn’t purely translate to reality. Then you must understand economics, what quality is required and what is to much. Then you must understand the human who will use the product, designing around most common failure that might result. If you can give me an AI who can do that, then humans are officially replaced and no longer dominant.

People look at AI as an end all be all. But people still need engineers. Imagine the world with only entrepreneurs and no workers. Imagine the world where money is no longer valuable but your abilities and skills to create and build something useful for society.

The thing is the government will step in and regulate ai so it will only take some of the jobs bc you can’t have a functioning economy and society without it

If he got the grades by himself. It is beyond the grades, it is the hardwork, the late nights, the focus and grit that has been built. Good grades isn’t about grades alone it is about building character too.

Tired of hearing non technical folk give technical takes. It's always short sighted.

Just started my first job after graduating with a mechanical engineering degree. My job isn’t anything crazy but I can 1000% guarantee I won’t be replaced with AI anytime soon.

Engineering jobs do have an immense amount of demand and anfter you graduate, its almost 100% safe to get a good job from where you can go up in the ladder, specially by learning business knowledge as well. AI will replace some basic, mathematical concepts that help you in your process. But to be able to know the theory behind the concepts to control them and to know what the customer wants, you need an immense amount of theoretical and practical knowledge. Even though AI will be a big part of the process, no production-company, specially smaller ones will think about not hiring an engineer for engineering.
