I drove a 2000 Forester for 19 years. Never got stuck anywhere and I tried. I miss that car.

Fenske is not honest in this comparison. Vehicles should face similar challenges with similar terrain and turf formation. One could be facing a tougher hill but with firm gravel, while the other faces a smaller hill with loose chippings. It's not a test of engine power but handling. I have also seen people in the comments criticizing the Outlander for appearing to struggle. Basic mech engineering shows that torque transfer happens when there is a slip. The front wheels had to slip for torque to be transferred to the rear axle. There is nothing wrong with slipping first and then working the way up unless 4WD was activated from the start which could be the case in the Subaru Forester. Comparisons should be based on facts, not agendas.

This is a CHECKERS CHAMP going against a CHESS GRANDMASTER.

Confession time...I live in South Africa 🇿🇦 and I’ve wondered why White Folk around here loved this Subaru thing, it NEVER FOR ONCE occurred to me that it was such a mean outback beast (in SA we refer to the outback as THE BUNDUS) to me the LAND CRUISER, NISSAN PATROL, LAND ROVER DEFENDER and PAJERO were the rulers of the outback, never thought this SUBARU was this good, if anything the only SUBARU I really paid attention to is the WRX STi and that’s it.

In my country we are hatchback crazy, GOLF GTi, FORD FOCUS ST, AUDI RS amongst a plethora of other options, we are also a big market for SUV, SEDANS, PICK UP you name it but there’s a very few people who really pay attention to your FORESTER and its competitors.

I’ve watched a few vids on this FORESTER Beast, I now know why many WHITE FOLK buy this car, it is such a giant sleeper and I love it.
I love the fact that not many people are aware of its outback capabilities and for that reason I’m going to buy myself one day, join a SUBARU FORESTER club and learn how to drive it so I can go “BUNDU BASHING” on weekends.😉✌🏿🇿🇦 Thanks for schooling us out here.

Great video to show your bias, or lack of understanding for off-roading.

No mention of tires, no mention of deflation of tires in either one, and different conditions with different drivers. Just a patchwork of clips. lol

The Subaru is Symmetrical All Wheel Drive.
It rocks here.

The music at the start is like something from a workplace health and safety video that you are forced to watch on induction day !

I would like it to see the cars to be driven on the same road by the same driver, just my opinion. (impressed with my forrester )

We do need to give Mitsubishi credit for building such a capable car. They tried hard and exceeded all our expectations.

This was great. A moment of silence for all those who did not pick up on the sarcastic music selection 🤣

Subaru did a test where they put their vehicle on rolling pins. I believe it's a 30° angle or better and it still went up everybody else nothing could even get started.

Music comparison
Mitsubishi: preppy teen skipping along, climbs a bump. Screams in victory.
Subaru: *RISE OF THE GODS*

Both must be at the same spot to compare.

I love my Outlander because it is a nice comfortable ride, and cheap to buy and own. But it is not a hard core 4 wheel drive car like the Forrester.

Most folks don’t understand the GARGANTUAN capabilities of the Forester until they see it in person. I didn’t… until my first time owning one.
I’ve had two, one still today.
Humbling to witness, still.

i saw a 1st gen subaru forester out perform a toyota hilux and nissan patrol in the sand dunes of the sahara desert it was a sight to behold all we heard was the boxer engine chugging along and when we looked at the hills the subaru was vertical driving up a steep hill

I have a newer Subaru Impreza hatch and despite it being a small hatchback of a car, the symmetrical AWD is an absolute tank on off terrain and in the winter on ice roads

So intense when the Mitsubishi struggles but managed to not give up and push through.. 😅

Offroading is where you test the limits of both your vehicle and your skills.

LOL, I was on an expedition last year and the only Subaru in our group got stuck. My Volvo XC70 was fine. Why? Tires - it's all about the tires. AWD and fancy electronics mean nothing if you don't have good tires.

Drove a RWD car for years while at school in Maine - just add a couple of sand bags and some decent snow tires and it was unstoppable. Never mind that when you borrow a car from a manufacturer they absolutely do NOT want to beat on it. Just ask TFLcar about their experience with a Subaru loaner....
