DSLR cameras have been the go-to technology for high-end photography for some time now, but could the newer mirrorless cameras give them a run for their money?

mirrorless cameras r important for vampire photography

I'm a freelance Photographer. I own both systems and have used both considerably, however there is a major issue with mirrorless cameras that affects af at low light; mirrorless cameras cannot use af assist beams that come with speedlites. This means that in low light or smoke/fog/mist (I'm a wedding/party/nightclub photographer so I deal with both regularly) the af cannot cope. You end up with either a very slow hunting af or shots out of focus. There are some work arounds, but generally they are still hit and miss. Personally my mirrorless is great for natural light, but when it comes to events where I need the shot 1st time and/if there is low or low contrast lighting, it's automatically back to my DSLR.

ReUploading A Video As Fast As Possible

I'd love to take a look at the low-light capabilities of newer mirrorless cams in my in-home environment.

"Your parents' SLR" is just a film camera.
When it comes to sports, there is still no direct competition with DSLRs, this is because the autofocus is still way up there even in prosumer gear (Canon 7D/7D mark II, Nikon D7200) and they still have at least twice or even three times the battery life of a mirrorless system, that is without even considering a grip.

Oh, and it's a reupload.

I like my mirrorless. It's a Sony Alpha a6000. It's fast and the lenses I got with it are pretty versatile for someone who's just getting into photography. One thing that I think should've been included in this video is the fact that there are lens adapters available for many cameras so now you can use an adapter and throw a DSLR lens onto your mirrorless.

Your explanation was very misleading. When it comes to lenses, mirrorless cameras have a great advantage over DSLRs because you can adapt almost every lens mount you want, while with new canons you're not even able to mount old canon fd lenses. Also the point that the value on low priced DSLRs is better, is completely wrong. Canon slowly introduces features like NFC and Wifi to their lineups and Sony announces market changing cameras (like the a6300) pretty much twice a year and has the same features, that canon is now so proud, of since years. The only point where DSLRs are still superior is autofocus and that's also the reason why they're not well suited for sports photography

"DSLRs have the same design as a traditional 35mm film camera" - video shows a rangefinder.

The camera shown as "your parent's SLR" was not an SLR, it was a range finder camera.

At 0:24 is a rangefinder shown, it's a mirror-less film camera.

3 months ago i switched from my Nikon D750 to a Sony A7 II...
I dont miss anything. At all. And i love it to be able to use old lenses from camera brands which a lot of people never heard of (like good old Contax/Yashica lenses). I dont need blazing fast AF for what im doin. With Focus peaking its a joy to use old MF lenses and some of them got character to it, which cannot be "faked" in post.
What battery life is concerned: i rarely get in trouble with 2 batteries even for a long event. i just stick 2 batteries in my horizontal grip and im good to go. The evf enables me to see more than through my optical on the D750 (with same aperture lenses)... yes i mean the brightness. A good example: on my D750 i used a 17-35mm F4 Tokina lens and a 16-35 F4 on my A7 II. I was able to see the people in the club even at low light levels through the EVF where with the DSLR i was nearly blind and had to rely on additional light from an LED panel i carried with me. Sure the image isnt as smooth at those light levels, but it still enhances my vision.

For me the A7 II works perfectly, for other types of photography it might not suit the needs.
And please dont blame me for my orthography, english isnt my native language. so if you find errors: keep them and be happy :)

And now you can flame me as much as you want ^^

The size difference is rather redundant with the newer mirrorless systems. Look at the new 70-200 on the Sony FE mount for example. It's as big as an SLR 70-200. The 2.8 version is as big and heavy as the Canon L.

A) AF on mirrorless is less reliable, so for Sports not so hot event if shutter speed is getting faster
B) A sony A7 with a 70-200 2.8 is as big as a canon (but smaller sensor size like MFT means smaller lenses)
C) One of the feature that is good for mirrorless even with EVF: WYSIWYG

It was reuploaded due to a media error at the 8 second mark, in case anyone was wondering.

here's a what you guys need to know

Mirrorless : +Small, Generally light
-Really short battery life

DSLR : +Long battery life, Better grip on the camera, better compatibility with other accessories
-Heavy, Bulky

there you go, I'd generally rather use a big bulky DSLR than a mirrorless because my hands prefer a better grip.
