I just did this wow there was a lot of hair all over, so I’m glad I got it cleaned out. Also, the screwdriver size is PH00 in case anyone was wondering

There’s a class action lawsuit right now for the controller drift issues.

Wait. Pro controllers drift now too? Welp. I’m screwed now.

My pro controller has been drifting so much, it’s incredibly frustrating.

Guide worked great. Thanks!

For anyone struggling with putting the ribbon back on at that weird angle, instead of trying to slide it inside, the part that you put it in has a little hinge that flips open, so do that first, then put the ribbon on it and then close the hinge. Much easier, and the video didn't mention that.

This is an excellent how-to video, with thorough explanations throughout. I was able to mend my pro-controller following these instructions to the letter. It now works perfectly with no signs of drift. As an bonus, the controller is now as clean as be. You would be surprised how much dirt and hair get trapped inside electronics, especially if you're a pet owner. Thank you very much!

What timing, this issue literally just started happening for me last night! A basic cleaning of what I could access without taking it apart seemed to do the trick, but I’ll be taking it apart to clean it thoroughly just in case. Thanks for a wonderfully helpful video :)

happy to say that my kid used this tutorial to do this himself. I have the tools, he had the time, it all worked out. Thank you

I've been using my two Pro Controllers since 2017 and this fixed the drifting left sticks that both had very quickly. Thanks for the guide!

I've never commented on a YouTube video before, but wanted to say THANK YOU so much for posting this. I was doubtful that the contact cleaner idea would work, but thought I'd try before buying a new controller. Worked great! Thank you!

I just bought a pro controller thinking it wouldn’t drift nearly as easily as the Joy-Cons, and now you’re telling me it does?

Ty so much I managed to fix my Procon drift cuz now, just a few things of note the review doesn’t mention.

1) The two handle screws are screws definitely for a J00 screwdriver J standing for Japanese Industrial Standard, the Japanese equivalent of Phillips in both shape and usage. As I said these are extremely similar to their Phillips counterparts but they are different which may make unscrewing them a little harder. In order to open them you will either need a J00 screwdriver or a Phillips 000 screwdriver.

2) The next four screws for the transparent backplate are also for a J00 screwdriver so as above you will either need a J00 screwdriver or a Phillips 000 screwdriver.

3) The last top four screws (the ones at the top in between the shoulder buttons and just below the shoulder buttons) to split the controller in two are probably for a J00 screwdriver although they could be for something else. I think found that my Phillips 000 screwdriver did work although it was difficult, I also found that a Phillips 0 screwdriver worked.

4) I have found that the last fifth bottom screw to split the controller in half (the one by the pairing bar) is an absolute pain and I stripped it on my first attempt. I think it may have been different to the other four at least on my model. As I wasn’t able to get it out properly I don’t know what screwdriver it was for, also in my case I’m pretty sure the screw was silver.
However good news so long as you have all the other screws you can put the pro controller back together without that bottom screw and it’ll work fine.

Other than that all good, also take heed of Alex’s words and go easy on that contact cleaner. I used the same make of compressed air and contact cleaner as him but I guess I wasn’t as good on applying the latter because it didn’t dry properly. My controller works fine now but just to pass some help to anyone who reads this :)

To anyone wondering if this is legit and it works... yes. This is legit and it works.

Honestly, for the best results, you should use the JIS Japanese standard bit instead of philips. They fit better and will be less likely to strip, seeing as the Nintendo screws are pretty soft.

I can't thank you enough. You saved me $70! Great video! Clear and fast instructions with lots of personality. You're a champ.

Hey man, thanks a lot! This surprisingly worked! I have had my pro controller, since summer last year, and the right analog stick started drifting about one month ago, so i am really glad that this worked. I just opened the controller and cleaned it with wet cotton, and now it works perfectly! Thank you for this tutorial:)
