We keep getting caught up in the fact that animals don't speak in the same way we do. They don't. But that is not a sign of intelligence. Their actions speak volumes. One thing this video demonstrates is how empathetic even wild animals (such as the deer saving the woman from an attacker) can be. They are much more aware of us -- and understand more about us -- than we realize.

Also? My cats have saved me several times. One cat attacked a burglar and drove him out of my apartment when I was young; another cat showed me how to behave when encountering a bear (play it cool) and a third faced a large cat-hating dog that I was watching, crying to tell me my front door had blown open on a cold winter's night. There was a gate between them (which is the only reason the dog did not get out) but my cat stood right on the other side and cried until he woke me. If he hadn't, we all might have frozen. And he figured that out-- or, at least, that the door should not be open. Also, my dog (a chocolate lab, BTW) saved me from an attacking German Shepherd who had knocked me down. And though the dog was attacking him, he shielded me until I could stand and help him fight off the dog. (The poor dog was always left out in his yard, tied up; he had broken his chain; when I told the owner what happened she was indifferent).

Service dogs do many things. Mine is a medical alert dog. She has a special job and she has stopped medical issues already that are life threatening yet she is only about a year old Chihuahua. She is so smart that she can smell something is going wrong 2-3 hours before a problem and even when there is an issue and the Dr’s machines can’t get figured out!
