My mom sometimes uses the phrase "radim kao crnac" which means "working like a black man" and she means by it-I am working as a slave, no one is helping me, nor seeing how I am falling apart. She works in a medical field and 24 hour shifts with not enough staff can take a big toll on someone.

Maybe it's not so widely spread, but most of the people I know do have a decent amount of knowledge about slavery in the US + we were also for almost 500 years under the Ottoman empire, so we will always listen and try to understand the past and it's consequences.
It's amazing that Irina has parents who want to teach her about her heritage, languages, traditions.

Yeah, I remember how little we studied about American history in school in Serbia. It was one chapter and not even on the exam. For the European history on the other hand, we had to go through all major battles, kings and queens, generals, causes and consequences. One thing that most immigrants learn pretty fast is that African Americans have it hard in the US. Almost as if they are immigrants in their own country regardless of the fact they lived here for generations. The good news is that I have definitely seen positive changes in that regard over the past 20 years.

Hello Wonderful Family, Slim, you may not think so, but you and Dan are an attractive couple. He's handsome, you're pretty....gorgeous hair. In America, people as such (very attractive couples) are stared at lots. I've noticed, African Americans who have lots of long thick hair are often stared at. So, wearing your natural hair down frequently will attract lots of stares. On another note, may God continue to bless your entire family.
